Job Title : Parish Accounting Payroll Specialist FLSA Status : Non-exempt

Purpose :
Coordinate central payroll services to Diocesan parishes and schools. Assist director(s) with financial review of parishes, schools, and other diocesan entities to ensure the diocesan locations adhere to generally accepted accounting principles, laws, regulations, and financial policies of the Diocese of Sioux City.
Assist director with benefit enrollment and compliance.
Essential Functions :
1. Assist locations with their QuickBooks software. Provide guidance for locations in using the standardized Chart of Accounts, to ensure uniformity across the Diocese.
2. Handle scheduled payroll services for diocesan parishes and schools.
3. Provide general accounting support and on-going training to location bookkeepers. Respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
4. Train new bookkeepers and provide interim bookkeeping services as needed.
5. Assist with the receipt of the annual financial reports.
6. Assist with preparation and presentation of annual bookkeeper meetings.
7. Assist with and complete desk reviews and on-site financial reviews to analyze financial transactions and internal control practices.
8. Assist HR with benefit enrollments for Diocesan locations.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required or Preferred :
Associate degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or equivalent work experience in a related field. Minimum two years accounting experience required.
Prior experience in payroll services required. Accounting skills including background in GL, AP, AR and financial statements are essential.
Strong working knowledge of double entry accounting software such as QuickBooks, Peach Tree, parish soft or similar accounting software required.
Must be able to handle confidential information appropriately, be well organized with good eye for detail, work independently, and be able to perform responsibilities effectively in a busy office environment.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to deal tactfully with the public and prepare written reports.
Must have a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, track projects and organize multiple tasks.

- Pastors, Parish Bookkeepers
- Parish Directors & Financial Council members
- Chancery Staff - Finance & Human Resource Department

- Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, computers, and / or controls; some light lifting may be required.
Duties may require travel and attendance at evening and / or weekend meetings. Although work is performed primarily under inside environmental conditions, the required travel may result in temporary exposure to outside environmental conditions.
Regular driving and a valid driver's license are required. Duties require a wide range of intellectual and practical problem-solving skills and comprehension of complex concepts.
