Head of Risk Management & Control

Pivotal role within commodity trading activities, with a broader view across all commodities (Oil, Natural Gas, and Power), the Head of Risk Management & Control will be responsible for managing the Commodity Risk, Counterparty & Credit Risk, and Reporting & Trade Control teams.

Acting as a first line of defense, this leadership position is instrumental in safeguarding our trading operations while promoting growth and profitability.

What you'll do

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Commodity Risk, Counterparty and Credit Risk, and Reporting & Trade Control teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Develop and enhance risk management procedures and methodologies in alignment with company standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Regularly monitor and assess the market, credit, and counterparty risks associated with commodity trading positions. Provide insights and recommendations to optimize risk-return profiles.
  • Produce clear reporting to senior management and the board to inform clear decision making in relation to risk within trading activities.
  • Oversee the trade control process to ensure accurate trade capture, trade matching, and settlement processes. Collaborate with front-office and operations teams to resolve trade discrepancies.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop team members, fostering their professional growth and ensuring their competence in risk management and control.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements to strengthen the overall risk management and control framework.
  • Work cross-functionally with teams in other jurisdictions and time zones to create a cohesive global risk management framework, sharing best practices and ensuring consistency in risk assessment and mitigation efforts across the business.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Relevant experience within a commodity trading company, preferably in Product Control, Market Risk, or Business Review roles.
  • GARP certification - FRM (preferential)
  • Knowledge of ETRM systems (preferential)
  • In-depth knowledge of commodity trading markets, including an understanding of market risk, credit risk, and counterparty risk as well as front-to-back business processes and controls.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven experience in leadership and people management, with a track record of building and managing high-performing teams.
  • Fluent in English and Portuguese, both verbally and in writing.
