This position reports to the Director of New Student Programs (NSP) and will empower the success of NSP through creativity, operational logistics, management support, and collaboration in the daily and annual operations of the services, structures, and NSP programming to ensure that our newest students take their first steps toward collegiate success at TU.

The goals of the NSP office are to facilitate the new student experience as a seamless transition into the collegiate experience, manage their interactions with our institution to ensure a feeling of hospitality and user-friendliness, and convey a sense of robust service to and celebration of our students and student leaders.

The Coordinator of NSP supports these goals through specific tasks and duties assigned by the Director of NSP to deliver services and activities that execute the goals of the office.

Characteristic Duties :

Provide operational leadership in orchestration of critical program events (focused on either New Student Orientation or the First-Year Experience courses).

This includes recruitment of leaders (students or professionals), logistics and classroom assignments, supporting presentations, assignments and assessment procedures.

Work requires collaboration with the offices of the Registrar, Student Success Coaches, Student Access, and the offices of the Deans of all four undergraduate colleges.

Provide system tracking and accountability for student participation in designated area of focus (either New Student Orientation or FYE courses), while also providing attention and customization to individual students needs as warranted.

This requires identifying processes and practices that undermine student success and recommending adjustments and improvements.

Collaborate in developing training materials for leaders and stakeholders in designated area of focus (New Student Orientation or FYE courses).

Contribute to an ongoing process for bringing improvements and innovation to the training processes, and find new areas of efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Assist in building campus-wide awareness and engagement with designated areas of focus (NSO or FYE ). Create materials for publication and distribution and collaborate with Marketing and Communication for improved campus web presence, social media, and communication with both current and incoming students and families.
  • Coordinate the planning, design, and implementation of program elements that support delivery of the course; participate in the processes to define the scope and schedule of activities;

participate in the implementation process.

  • Assist the Director in creating, deploying, and reviewing assessment materials for all aspects of NSP to (a) appraise the success of the office, needs of students, project adjustments and changes for future cohorts, and (b) comply with the annual routines of Continual Improvement as lead by the Office of Assessment.
  • Train and provide mentoring and leadership to student workers as assigned.
  • Provide logistical support to office operations including work in the Microsoft Office 365 Suite, engagement with purchasing processes, cross-departmental collaboration, engagement with campus improvement procedures, and broader support of the NSP mission to serve and empower students.

This may include work tied to peer mentor recruitment, hiring, training and deployment, orientation development and orchestration, coaching students, and the Parent Working group.

  • Participate in professional development, related to assigned duties, and in understanding the needs of students and their families.
  • As available, support the work of campus partners serving the need and development of the TU community, including (but not limited to) the Division of Student Experience, the Office of Student Success, Student Access, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Office of Compliance, the Office of Admission.

The Program Manager will demonstrate appropriate levels of familiarity and competency with :

  • Emerging trends in working with first-year students (both traditional students and transfer).
  • Basic assessment practices related to student learning, student experiences, customer service and measures for improvement.
  • Trends and research of principles and practices of both Orientation / Transition programming and FYE structures across the industry.
  • Methods and mechanics for bringing organization and systemization to complex processes and procedures within an institutional framework with multiple stakeholders.
  • Administrative organization, accountability and recording keeping

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience working with the Office365 Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint in particular). This experience can be attained concurrently with educational work, internships or in other work contexts.
  • Experience with event planning, collaboration on teams, delivering high quality results under challenging circumstances.
  • Experience in customer service, working in teams with highly motivated professionals, an aptitude for working on multiple projects at once, and comfort working with complex topics and challenging material.
  • Oral and written communication skills congruent with working in Higher Education.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualification :

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, or 2 or more years working with First-Year Experience Programs, or similar first-year initiatives in a Higher Ed context.
  • Competency with Colleague / Ellucian.
  • Strong skills in creating materials for marking, publication, and delivery to various constituencies.
  • Experience with advanced assessment measures and methodology.
