Hours : Monday - Friday first shift including weekends and holidays as needed. Second and / or third shift work will be required to fully learn the job duties, specific work schedules will be mutually agreed to.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as a Power Plant Apprentice within the DuPage County Facilities Management Department.

The role of the Apprentice is to learn all the skills and competencies associated with the operating of the DuPage County Power Plant.

This position is included in the Bargaining Unit of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 399 and is open to existing Bargaining Unit Maintenance Technicians in accordance with the bargaining agreement.

The selected candidate will need to complete the minimum coursework required to obtain a Stationary Engineer's license.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include :

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair on a variety of mechanical equipment
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and repair of the Power Plant, the tunnel, and County owned or leased facilities, and related Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment
  • Move supply items to and from storage areas, racks, or shelves, provide assistance in checking equipment operation for proper functioning
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance, perform scheduled rounds, and record pertinent readings and data to ensure a safe and efficient operation
  • Perform painting and simple plumbing and electrical repairs
  • Inspect building structures and / or equipment
  • Shadow the assigned Stationary Engineer and perform work as directed

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience :

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year experience in maintenance and repair
  • A valid Illinois Driver's License in good standing

Do you possess a High School Diploma or GED?
