Position Summary and Duties

Provide service, support and engagement opportunities for students in alignment with the institutional mission. Provide support in the management, supervision and daily operations of several departments related to the student experience and engagement.

Assist in planning, implementation and evaluation of the strategic initiatives of the University related to student development, diversity and inclusion.

Assist with overall divisional planning, oversees divisional budget and provide management support regarding budget and space allocation, construction and capital projects.

Summarize requests and the approval process for personnel and operations for all Student Development departments. Monitor Divisional budgets within Student Development division.

Identify discrepancies / concerns. Work with directors to address issues, which often includes working with Director of Student Administrative Services & Disbursements or Controller’s office, and or Associate Vice President for Budget and Business Planning.

Coordinate budget training. Oversee Division’s budget request process (for upcoming FY). Reallocate resources within the Division.

Provide VP with budget data and suggest budget increases and reductions. Serve a Division’s representative on Budget Committee.

Work to ensure that Directors have the resources and tools needed to effectively manage their budgets. Serve as lead on projects;

summarize requests and the approval process for capital expenses for all Student Development departments. Oversee Division’s capital budget.

On behalf of VP, approve Division capital fund requests. Determine Division’s capital budget and project priorities and submit to Capital Budget Committee.

Serve on University’s Capital Budget Committee, which recommends how to utilize the University’s capital funds and prioritizes capital projects.

Supervise and collaborate with several directors in the student development division related to the student experience and engagement such as ALANA Student Services, Student Engagement, Recreation and Wellness, Women’s Center and Graduate Student Services.

Provide leadership and guidance in the areas of program development, personnel management and program goals. Assess, with the division leaders, changing needs of students of color as well as sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Assist with assessment of models for student leadership development on college campuses. Provide ongoing, weekly supervision to address shifting and evolving issues.

Provide counsel to the Vice President for Student Development in the event of crises. Serve as a resource to manage internal and external requests for the Vice President’s office including handling parent inquiries and correspondence in the VPabsence.

Represent the Division on presidential and cabinet debriefing of critical incidents. Advise faculty, administrators, and staff on responding to critical incidents following the death of a student, a faculty member, an administrator, or staff member or other traumatic experiences.

Serve as backup senior administrator for crisis management. Respond to student and parent concerns. Serve as non-voting administrator for University Board of Discipline.

Provide leadership for the division’s assessment efforts including keeping our divisional dashboard and key performance indicators current.

Coordinate and summarize departmental end of the year reports for the VPSD. Serve on the institutional assessment committee and chair the research consulting group.

Provide divisional leadership in promoting DEIJ awareness through professional development and policies related to campus awareness of incidents of intolerance.

Direct department leadership regarding diversity training of student leaders.

Attend college and academic governance meetings for the Vice President for Student Development as needed or requested. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Required Qualifications

Ability to support the University’s values as a Catholic, Jesuit university and for institutional diversity.

Working knowledge of student development theory and its applications in a higher education setting.

Significant problem analysis, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Ability to handle emergencies on a residential campus.

Ability to promote diversity within a college setting. Ability to perform with a student-centered philosophy and commit to diversity in leadership.

Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to motivate others and to establish a significant level of trust as a collaborator across the University.

Master’s degree in education, business or counseling required. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience supervising several student development departments.

Prior experience managing multi-million dollar budgets and reallocation across departments.

Strategic planning and culture change leadership.

Doctorate preferred.
