TITLE : Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS :
- An associate’s degree (or higher) with completion of a Speech Language Pathology Assistant program in addition to any state level licensing requirements
- Three or more years of recent experience as an SLPA, or a closely related field preferred
- Experience, skills & knowledge required to provide effective services and supports to students and staff
REPORTS TO : Building Administrator / Chief Special Services Officer
JOB GOAL : To assist Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) in the development and implementation of special education services for identified students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBLITIES :
- Assist Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) with speech-language services
- Implements treatment plan / IEP and services as directed by SLP
- Trains and monitors school staff in the appropriate therapy needed to integrate services
- Assists the SLP in providing periodic verbal and written reports and participates in eligibility, IEP, and placement team meetings when appropriate
- Serves as a consultant to regular classroom teachers regarding speech / language services
- Uses a variety of instructional techniques, including assistive technology if needed
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings, professional activities, and serves on committees as appropriate
- Accepts the responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned.
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress as appropriate
- Is actively involved in professional growth activities
- Maintains an effective therapy room environment that is conducive to learning and to the developmental levels and interests of students
- Maintains accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
- Maintains confidentiality
- Abides by all district policies, state and federal laws
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Nine month year. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.
