The area of specialization is open, with preference given to candidates whose research relates to gender, relationships, human sexuality, health, religion / spirituality, or personality / social psychology broadly.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a firm commitment to teaching and scholarship at a liberal arts college and will be expected to maintain an active research program involving undergraduates.
This new position is endowed by a generous gift from an alumna who was also a psychology professor and will be supported by start-up funds, lab space, and an annual endowed fund to support research and travel expenses.
Opportunities for collaborative research are available through our partnerships with OUTMemphis, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, University of Memphis, University of Tennessee Medical School, and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, CHOICES, and Planned Parenthood.
Collaborative research and teaching opportunities exist with several interdisciplinary programs, including Africana Studies, Latin American Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Urban Studies, Data Analytics, Neuroscience, and Educational Studies.
Teaching responsibilities will include five courses per year and will consist of a combination of introductory, methods / statistics, and senior seminar courses, as well as upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
Candidates must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in an appropriate subdiscipline of psychology by July 2025.
