The College of Education at University of Phoenix is looking for an individual to teach the following course Visual Arts Content and Curricular Knowledge .
SEC / 541 : This course explores the theory, application, and strategies of teaching the visual arts for single-subject teacher candidates.
Candidates identify the educational needs of students by exploring current instructional theory, national and state standards, assessment practices, aesthetic valuing, artistic perception, and historical and cultural origins that influence the arts.
Candidates develop skills in adapting delivery methods and behavior management plans for individual students and diverse populations.
The course also emphasizes classroom management skills, including safety, and the use of technology as they relate to visual arts instruction.
- As a faculty member you’ll be challenged with adding your professional expertise to instruct a curriculum which is centrally developed with specific learning objectives.
- Provide timely and detailed feedback on a weekly basis and offer student support via classroom, phone, and email.
- Utilize classroom learning system technology (provided by university), the Internet, and Microsoft Office software.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
- Doctorate degree in an Educational field or an equivalent area; OR
- Doctorate degree in any area AND a minimum of 18 applicable graduate credits with a focus in Education; OR
- Masters’ degree in an Educational field or an equivalent area; OR
- Masters’ degree in any area AND a minimum of 18 applicable graduate credits with a focus in Education
- All candidates must have a minimum of 9 applicable semester credits. Applicable coursework can include but is not limited to : Art Education, Art History, Art Curriculum Design, or Visual Arts
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the K-12 setting with a minimum of 3 years of current applicable experience, some of which must have been within the last 5 years.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
- Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.
- A current endorsement in an Arts related field may be used in lieu of the required 9 applicable credits.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the K-12 setting with a minimum of 3 years of current applicable experience, some of which must have been within the last 5 years.
- Acceptable professional positions can include but are not limited to : Art Teacher in a K-12 environment, Art Curriculum or Program Development Specialist.
- CURRENCY : Extended through : 1) Student Teacher Supervisor experience for K-12 student populations, or 2) Teaching for faculty with a Doctorate or Master’s in education
- SCHOLARSHIP : All faculty members must have one record of scholarship annually, within a rolling one-year timeframe, that meets UOPX’s definition of scholarship engagement.
Faculty who do not initially meet this requirement may still be qualified, however, they have one year from the date the content area is approved and / or the requirement effective date, to come into compliance with this Nursing Scholarship requirement to maintain content area approval.
REQUIRED CREDENTIAL
- A current K-12 certification in one or more of the following :
- Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Early Childhood Education, Principal, arts endorsement, or a current K-12 single subject / subject specific teaching credential in visual art.
