Main Purpose of Job

This recruitment is for multiple full-time positions. This position will conduct on-site surveys of providers, regulated by the Office of Health Care Quality, and determine their compliance with federal and / or state regulations.

A nurse surveyor must possess excellent communication and writing skills, including the ability to articulate clinical findings in easily understood terms.

Moderate computer skills, at the very least, are also required. This position is an integral part of OHCQ's mission, which is to protect the health and safety of the citizens of Maryland, as well as ensure that there is public confidence in the health care and community service delivery systems.

This is a field position that requires the use of your personal vehicle, in order to travel throughout the state. Overnight stays are required at different frequencies in the various units.

Below are descriptions of the nurse surveyor's role in each unit : Federal Unit : A surveyor in this unit investigates complaints and conducts surveys in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, residential treatment centers, home health, hospice, dialysis, and ambulatory surgery centers.

The surveyor usually works independently and occasionally with a team. The surveyor will be required to complete all training programs mandated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The majority of travel can be completed in one day, with overnight stays about 1-2 times a month. Assisted Living Unit : A surveyor in this unit primarily individually investigates a complaint or conducts a survey in assisted living programs or adult medical day care centers.

They may also work on a team to conduct a licensing or renewal survey. The majority of travel can be completed in one day, with overnight stays about 1-2 times a month.

Long Term Care (Nursing Home) Unit : A surveyor in this unit conducts inspections of nursing homes to determine compliance with State and federal regulations.

The surveyor will be required to complete all training programs mandated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for long term care facilities, including QSEP training.

Experience in nursing homes and / or similar clinical settings is highly desirable. There are overnight stays about 8-10 times a month.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience : None.

Notes :

1. Candidates may substitute two years of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing specialty codes in the inspection of health care facilities and program field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have training and experience as a Registered Nurse, as well as experience making decisions regarding compliance with State regulations.

The desired candidate should also be able to accurately document deficient practices.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing.

A copy of your license or license number and expiration date must accompany your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
