We are looking for a talented Sr. System Administrator to join our Infrastructure team in Newport Beach, CA. The primary job location is Newport Beach, CA.
A hybrid work schedule will be allowed, but please note that this is NOT a fully remote position.
As a senior VMware / Windows engineer, you will play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success by supporting various business organizations and stakeholders in primary and several remote locations.
You will design, implement, and manage our VMware ESXi server, virtual center, VMotion, HA, DRS, and related products such as SRM and Aria.
You will also automate ESXi and VM deployments using infrastructure as code, Windows administration, and security audits using PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, and other tools.
You will help the management team with creating a strategic short and long-term roadmap for modernizing our on-prem data centers and transitioning to a unified cloud platform, ensuring that our operating models and infrastructure paradigms are consistent across public and private clouds.

- Bring efficiency, creativity, and innovation to our VMware / Windows environment and cloud initiatives. Implement, automate, and enforce best practices, standards, and policies to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
- Help the management team with creating a strategic short and long-term roadmap for modernizing our on-premises data centers and transitioning to a unified cloud platform.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and vendors to support our cloud vision and goals.
- Collaborate with our cloud platform engineering team to ensure consistency and future-proofing our datacenter infrastructure platforms and workflows
- Interface with internal and external security / audit teams to ensure all server systems are completely secured against any ransomware or cyber-attacks.
- Implement and monitor security controls, policies, and procedures to protect our data and assets.
- Collaborate with other engineers, developers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business needs and expectations.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior team members.
The experience you will bring :
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience and knowledge with designing, installing, and implementing VMware ESXi server, Virtual Center, VMotion, HA, DRS, and related VMware products such as SRM and Aria.
- 5+ years of experience with automating ESXi deployments, Windows administration, and security audits using PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, or other infrastructure as code (IaC) and defined state configuration (DSC) DevOps tools
- Strong Windows administration skills including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, WSUS, etc.
- Experience with HPE server blade enclosures and familiarity with storage systems such as NetApp, Pure Storage, etc.
- Experience with hypervisors besides VMware, such as Hyper-V, KVM, Xen, etc. is a plus.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, etc. is a plus.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
What will make you stand out :
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher certification.
- Microsoft Certified : Azure Administrator Associate or higher certification, or other relevant cloud certifications
- Experience with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
- Experience with DevOps tools and methodologies such as Git, Jenkins, CI / CD, etc.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Powershell, Python, Ruby, etc.

Base Pay Range :
The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting.
The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location.
Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
$131,040.00 - $160,160.00
