Engineer 2 is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, systems, and solutions.

These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability at this level supports applications, services, infrastructure, and operational components, with minimal supervision.

Engineer 2 role is in the Selling Control & Pricing Organization. We are a fast-growing team with the vision to change how Nordstrom & Nordstrom Rack sells to its customers and cardmembers.

We are building a new machine-learning and rules-based engine that intends to automate selling and pricing outcomes. We have both front-end and back-end services natively deployed on the cloud (AWS).

Selling decisions, Price, Promotions, and Clearances are core business functions that we already support today.

We are on the hunt for passionate engineers with a knack for service and API development with skills of front-end development, ready to take full ownership of the development lifecycle, a true owner at heart.

You Will :

Plan and develop robust, maintainable, reusable code for managing functionality, configuration, deployment, monitoring, performance, scalability, availability, security, and alerting for software test, integration, and production environments.

Develop, maintain, and enhance automated test cases and deployment procedures.

Design, prototype, and build : you will be hands on, show delivery mentality and lead by example.

Understand the Business / Stakeholder / Technical requirements and assist in analyzing the existing solutions to address the needs.

Assist in creation of simple, modular, extensible functional design for the product / solution in adherence to the requirements.

Assess gaps / updates / modifications between the customer / business expectations and the existing product / solutions.

Analyze defects from past projects / solutions to avoid recurrence of similar defects.

Analyze system performance impacting the complete product for non-functional requirements like reliability, operability, performance efficiency and security.

Lead and enforce Nordstrom / industry engineering standards, contribute towards their continuous improvement and be active in the community of practice.

You will be expected to display an operational mindset, support, and ensure reliability of the solution and systems under your purview.

Think of the customer (other engineering teams and business users) and how they will use the features you develop, have a customer focused mentality.

Think deeply about the underlying system that is running your code, test driven development that prioritizes quality.

What you will bring :

At least 4 years of industry experience and strong development experience in one or more Object Oriented such as Java, C#, C++ etc.

Be comfortable designing and implementing Restful / GraphQL services preferably in Nodejs / TypeScript.

Experience with cloud application development including scalable, data driven, and message-oriented architecture.

Experience designing scalable microservices on Kubernetes and working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

Experience with web frameworks / languages such as Springboot, Node.JS,

ReactJS, jQuery and messaging frameworks like Apache Kafka.

Experience working on cloud scale massive relational and No-SQL databases.

Experience with design patterns.

Experience with code repositories and version control practices.

Experience with test automation, CI / CD pipelines and best practices. Automated deployment experience is a plus.

Experience in software quality and operational excellence practices.

Experience in agile development methodology.

Experience with micro frontend architecture, responsive design, and web security Control is a plus.
