The Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction (APCI) serves as a member of the administrative team. The Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction (APCI) is a deliberate coach and effective manager responsible for helping teachers and scholars realize their full potential.
The APCI provides high-quality job embedded coaching and feedback to teachers so that they develop their skills at a fast rate.
The APCI ensures that teachers design and execute an instructional program that develops mastery and skills above grade level expectations and meets the individual needs of each student.
The APCI works collaboratively with the school leadership team to develop a school-wide culture of respect and achievement and a team culture grounded in common goals, mutual respect, empathy towards others, and an appreciation of diversity.
The APACI is a next generation educator who is a critical thinker and innovative problem solver with a high level of emotional intelligence.

Instructional Leadership
- Responsible for direct oversight of classroom instruction and use of support resources
- Responsible for overview of curriculum maps, lesson plans, and weekly tracking of grades
- Coordinate Professional Development specific to instruction and effective use of resources
- Create agendas for professional development days and faculty / staff meetings;
- Manages all Master Inservice Point paperwork;
- Responsible for the walk-through observations of staff members
- Serve as instructional coach as needed, modeling best practice for classroom instruction
- Serve as test coordinator for state and local testing
- Coordinate the New Teacher / Mentor Program for the school
- Participate and oversee the school’s Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Coordinates school support services and resources. Assists Academic Support / Resource Teachers with student services;
Data Analysis
- Provide data to inform the development of the school’s strategic plan aligned with school and network goals.
- Use data systems to organize and analyze student achievement data; ensure the validity and reliability of student data by attending to the rigor and alignment of assessments.
- Use data to inform decision making, to develop and modify curriculum, and to develop targeted and differentiated instruction.
- Meet with teachers regularly to discuss data trends; problem solve with teachers to prioritize the teacher actions that will most impact student performance.
- Assist with the creation, completion and presentation of school reports, as well as required reports for the district and charter authorizer.
Culture of Achievement and Respect
- Work with the school leadership team to implement the school’s mission; coordinate work and collaborate with the entire school community.
- Support school culture with staff, parents and students focused on strong academic achievement, fairness, and respect and high expectations for behavior.
- Work collaboratively with families and other members of the community to involve them in academic activities, to support the success of a diverse student population, and to bring in volunteers and additional resources.
- Communicate respectfully and thoughtfully with parent / guardians remaining sensitive to different families’ cultures, values and needs.
OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating teachers in accordance with the school’s overarching vision of excellent teaching.
- Coordinate standardized and school-based assessments.
- Determine the need for curricular materials, assessment materials, and instructional resources; communicate ordering needs with School Administrator.
Administrative and Operational Oversight
- Assists the Principal with day-to-day school operations and assume responsibility in his / her absence.
- Other responsibilities as determined by the Principal
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Hold a Master’s Degree in Education, Education Administration or Curriculum and Instruction from an accredited university or college that is recognized acceptable for Florida certification;
- Must hold or obtain a Florida Professional Certificate in Educational Leadership within three years of hire;
- Proven track record of closing the opportunity gap;
- Three to five (3-5) years teaching experience. Experience in instructional coaching and collaboration leadership;
- Must work towards a Master’s level Diocesan Catechist Certification within five years of hire.
ORGANIZATIONAL / COMMUNICATION / INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Position often involves coordinating, training, supervising, or managing the activities of others to accomplish goals. Very advanced communication and organizational skills are required.
Attention to detail and working well with others, particularly with young children (Pre-K 8th grade), is also required. Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and parish personnel via face-to-face discussions, telephone communications, and electronic mail.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires the abilities of oral and written comprehension and expression, deductive and inductive reasoning, clarity of speech, and near and far vision.
The Assistant Principal is expected to supervise students and observe teachers through regular site visits to classrooms and other areas of the school plant.
In addition, the Assistant Principal may be required to supervise and evaluate staff. Job incumbent must be able to, with or without reasonable accommodation, sit for long periods of time without a break, walk, stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, and move the fingers, wrists, arms, elbows, and lift up to 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The job primarily requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions, in crowded and at times noisy environments.
The Assistant Principal generally works within this environment at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, every week, 12 months a year.
Deviations from this schedule may occur due to contractual agreements set forth each employment contract year, based on the individual needs of the school / principal.
