Description

The primary function of this position is to provide operational support for scholarly activities related to research in the Smith Alzheimers Center.

This individual will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating various grant application proposals, manuscript submissions and other scholarly activity projects under the direction of the Director of the Smith Alzheimers Center with input from the research-focused faculty in the Smith Alzheimers Center.

This position has a primary focus on writing and editing, and creating new content for scientific and / or medical audiences.

May also assist the Marketing Associate and Development Officer with creating new content geared towards dissemination of our recent research findings to lay audiences.

Duties may include scientific abstract and manuscript development and editing; grant development and submission; data review and analysis;

support, guidance, and oversight on grant proposals, scientific manuscript submission, and other scholarly activities. This position requires a strong understanding of the scientific research process and the regulatory policies and guidelines that govern animal and human subject research, strong writing and editing skills with advanced knowledge of preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts, manuscript and grant review processes.

Examples of Duties

Research

A. Reviews funding opportunity announcements. Assists with preparation and development of grant and contract proposal content, develops budgets and personnel plans.

This can include complicated, multi-institutional collaborations with budgetary sub-recipient requirements.

B. Supports all aspects of grant and manuscript submission - guiding faculty and staff through grant application and manuscript preparation, development, writing, editing, formatting, compliance and other support.

C. Designs and creates reports, graphs, charts, figures and Power Point presentations for research projects and scholarly activities.

D. Assists with design, development and oversight of research and project preparation, including completing literature reviews, budget preparation, budget justifications, project design and development.

E. Participates in development and execution of research / scholarly activities workshops for the department, participates in relevant service to the community and attends project meetings, under supervision from designated principal.

F. Serves as a liaison in coordinating and scheduling meetings, brainstorming sessions, training

events and in helping develop, coordinate and execute joint clinical and basic science research

activities.

G. Attends mandatory departmental and School of Medicine-required meetings, and other work related educational programs.

H. Provide editing services for Smith Alzheimers Center research-related faculty and staff grant, manuscript, abstract, etc. submissions and revisions.

I. May perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Administration and Service

A. Responsible for submission of all annual grant reporting for the Smith Alzheimers Center.

B. Develops, maintains, and utilizes an extensive Mendeley database of works frequently cited in our publications. Responsible for basic familiarity with authors / researchers and work in Alzheimers and aging research and with the research and publications of the Smith Alzheimers Center labs.

C. Assist faculty in Smith Alzheimers Center Research with grant and manuscript reviewer

responsibilities and journal section editor duties.

D. Responsible for understanding NIH grant submission guidelines, procedures, and reporting processes and other granting agencies and foundations, as needed.

E. Attends and participates in outside meetings and conferences, as required.

F. Act as central resource in the Smith Alzheimers Center to support research and scholarly activity.

Teaching

A. Instruct other personnel (faculty, graduate students, researchers, etc.) regarding research

requirements, research methods, institutional compliance, software usage, journal formatting, etc.

Qualifications

BA / BS in appropriate field + 3 years' experience or MA / MPH / MPP + 1 years' experience
