The Quality Assurance Manager will have a variety of responsibilities; however, their main focus will be centered around two key initiatives : food safety and critical control processes.
Food safety has two critical components, zero food safety issues and dynamic systems & processes. Food safety must become a marketing asset for us.
We must be able to share with our customers our best practices and how we take every measure to keep them safe.
We must build out a food safety system where we conduct daily tests in our internal lab on all product ingredients that are shipped in.
Our goal is to be industry leaders in this field where people call us to come see our plant and want to know what we are doing.
We must commit ourselves to a learner mindset. We must thirst for more knowledge and it all starts with our QA Manager.
In order to accomplish this, we are looking for a systematic thinker who can build out systems & process centered around lean manufacturing principles.
We are headstrong on being industry leaders in food safety and will expect our Quality Assurance Manager to lead us to the next phase.
- Complies with safety and GMP requirements.
- Ensures quality systems comply with regulatory requirements.
- Ensures pre-requisite programs (pest control, environmental monitoring, etc.) are compliant with GMPs.
- Creates quality tools and training materials by applying body of knowledge / expertise and communicating to respective teams.
- Provides oversight to Quality team members including training, scheduling, attendance and guidance for continuous improvement.
- Plans, coordinates and provides corrective action follow-up for internal audits including GMP, foreign material (Glass, Brittle Plastic, Wood and Ceramic) and Food Defense, etc.
- Provides technical assistance to operations regarding process deviation reports and product specifications.
- Communicates deficiencies, continuous improvement and process change opportunities to quality and manufacturing management.
- Performs documentation review, HACCP verification activities (Pre-Shipment Review, System Verifications, Direct Observations) and SOP monitoring activities (pre-operational and operational) as necessary.
- Assists in product traceability and mock recall exercises, 3rd party and customer audits.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports a culture of safety; follows all safety procedures.
- Responsible for safety performance in respective area.
- Ensures the implementation of, adherence to, and enforcement of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ensures activities are completed to promote and enforce safe behaviors by supervisors and employees. F
- Fulfills responsibilities as outlined in the company safety program.
Requirements
EDUCATIONS / EXPERIENCE :
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree (BS or BA) in a science (i.e. Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology)
- Minimum 7 years Quality Assurance / Quality Control GMP experience in the food (or related) industry (commercial experience preferred).
- Minimum 5 years supervisory / management experience in the food (or related) industry.
- Experience with Customer Complaints, CAPA and Audits
- Excellent working knowledge of cGMP requirements for food manufacturing
- Thorough understanding of USDA and FDA regulations.
- Proficient in MS Office applications and electronic document management.
- Experience with electronic documentation systems / CAPA systems preferred.
- Ability to organize workload, projects, and documents to assist in accessing information
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Regularly required to work at a desk and enter information into a computer.
- Frequently required to use a computer and keyboard and to communicate in person and by telephone.
- Required to read / review written documentation for extended periods of time. Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally may be required to lift up to up to 25 lbs., and be able to walk, stand, reach and stoop.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- As required, works in a loud area that requires hearing protection and other protective equipment to be worn.
- May be exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals and biological materials.
- Frequently exposed to some of the FDA designated major food allergens (Milk and Wheat)
- 15-20% travel, including travel by plane, may be required.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including off shifts and weekends.
