Perimeter College's Fine Arts Department offers academic pathways in Music, Theatre, Art, and Film & Media. Position Description

The Department of Fine Arts of Perimeter College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor in Art Foundations / Studio Art.

This position offers a dynamic opportunity for an emerging scholar and dedicated educator to join our vibrant community of artists and scholars.

This is a teaching-focused position : 80% of the workload is instruction, with service and scholarly and creative activity accounting for 10% each.

Perimeter faculty are responsible for providing 27-32 credit hours of instruction per academic year and engaging in service to the department, college, and university.

Perimeter College faculty maintain a campus presence, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to early undergraduate teaching and learning, and the ability to thrive at an access institution.

The primary responsibilities will include designing and delivering engaging and innovative curriculum in various studio art disciplines such as drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and digital media.

The successful applicant will be able to guide students through technical skill-building, conceptual exploration, and critical thinking, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in departmental meetings, collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, advise and mentor students, and contribute to the broader academic community through scholarship and service activities.

The successful candidate's expertise and passion for art will inspire and empower Perimeter College students to reach their full creative potential.

Perimeter College is a multi-campus institution, and the teaching assignment may be on any of the college's campuses.

Assistant professor :

A minimum of a Masters of Fine Arts ( MFA ) terminal degree in Art in a studio art specialty (completed by the anticipated date of appointment) from an accredited institution is required.

some college teaching experience, which may include graduate teaching assistant work as an instructor of record, part-time instructor work, or similar experience.

Salary range : $49,082 - $54,082

Associate professor :

A minimum of a Masters of Fine Arts ( MFA ) terminal degree in Art in a studio art specialty and must have previously held the rank of associate professor at a comparable institution for a minimum of one academic year.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

A strong background in Studio Foundations courses including Drawing, 2-D, 3-D, sculpture, painting, and a demonstrated history of community-engaged practice, along with a commitment to conceptualize and explore beyond conventional studio practices.

  • College teaching experience. One year is preferred and can include experience as a teaching assistant at a college or university.
  • Experience teaching online and using a distance learning platform.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in high-impact educational practices, scholarship of teaching and learning, building college-to-career linkages, and / or other pedagogical initiatives that enhance student success.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in scholarship in the discipline and / or scholarship of teaching and learning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods with a demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology.
  • Ability to create a sense of belonging for a varied student population and facilitate student learning in both the in-person and virtual learning environments.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills (able to maintain appropriate records).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve discipline, department, or college goals.

The selected candidate will be responsible for :
