About this Position :

Developing and executing product and business strategy in a world of rapid technological and social change requires a highly capable, highly knowledgeable, and highly engaged team.

American Honda’s Sustainability & Business Development (SBD) business unit (BU) is tasked with navigating the business and technology application path for Honda's future renewable energy, resource circulation and innovative business initiative products, services, and businesses.

Based on the Triple Zero Concept (2050), we will realize a society in North America where all customers can enjoy freedom of mobility, worry-free of any environmental impact through the principles of a carbon free and circular economy.

The Circular Solutions division is focused on establishing new sources of revenue and profit through the pursuit of innovative new business opportunities including and beyond our core auto business, and through partnerships and alliances, we will foster entrepreneurial spirit and develop associates to prepare the company for the future.

The Resource Circularity Senior Business Development Lead will be responsible for Resource Circulation business development.

This will entail identifying, developing business themes focused on real-world implementation and creating business value through circular economy solutions.

Through executive dialogue and planning, the individual will deploy resource circularity programs to meet company's financial and sustainability metrics.

The task will focus on finding solutions that will change and / or strengthen American Honda's business focused on vehicles at end-of-life, from the collection of vehicles to maximizing opportunities throughout the value chain to recycled materials, including the strategies for future intended use of Honda's recycled materials.

Maximizing the individual's experience in the automotive recycling industry such as direct industry associations / committees or academia, this individual will require deep, practical and hands-on understanding of the automotive business, with emphasis on the automotive supply chain, as well as the technologies and operations of the vehicle recycling industry.

With an eye to future advances and understanding of vehicle recycling process and / or automotive materials, the individual will promote business opportunities through creating strategic partnerships to bring value into Honda's value chain.

This role will evaluate business viability and profitability and create a vision and roadmap to address internal / external customer and product needs based on technologies and solutions.

This senior role is responsible to validate business development themes or hypotheses to achieve the desired outcomes and recommend next steps to leadership.

Responsibilities include :

  • Lead strategic plan development :
  • Identify, create and propose business development themes aligned with mid-term and long-term business strategy for Circular Solutions focused on vehicle resource circulation.

This includes but not limited to clearly identifying the unique added-value Honda can bring to the market and value chain.

  • Successfully obtain approvals of business development themes from executive management meeting fiscal year requirements.
  • Clarify business development theme strategies cross-functionally to multiple business development teams for simple, actionable implementation plans.
  • Lead strategic plan validation :
  • Identify required resources including budget plan and stakeholders for preparation and execution of proof-of-concept to validate business success.
  • Set and pursue measurable plans, targets and KPI to clearly validate the business development themes.
  • Utilizing the understanding of business development themes, market environment, and Honda capabilities, lead the creation of technology implementations to support business success.
  • Lead strategic plan implementation & Team Management :
  • Regularly evaluate progress of all business development themes are consistently progressing towards identified goals and strategy.

Direct, mentor, motive and advise project themes for critical thinking for implementation success.

  • Executive and Stakeholder Reporting :
  • Reports status of business development themes and leads project evaluations to stakeholders including technology roadmaps, lessons learned and hypothesis updates.

Analyzes policies, trends, understands applicability and impact to Honda, summarizes and presents key learnings, and recommends next steps.

Who we are seeking :

Required Work Experience :

  • Proven track record of executive / senior leadership roles to drive business success
  • 7+ years of experience at automotive recycling associations, committees, or academia
  • 7+ years of practical experience in a business planning role with an emphasis on finance
  • Minimum two of following experience :
  • 10+ years of automotive material planning or development
  • 10+ years of automotive supply chain planning or purchasing
  • 7+ years of creating and introducing new business programs to automotive supply chain or recycling market
  • Honda or automotive industry specific knowledge across all product lines
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements and concepts of resource circularity
  • Knowledge of EV, environmental, sustainability and recycling industries

Required Education :

MBA from accredited university and / or program

Desired skills :

  • Executive / senior leadership skills to drive business success
  • Experience working at or with an automotive recycler
  • Strong hands-on technical expertise and track record of successful projects
  • Strong industry knowledge of technologies and their practical applications
  • Ability to think big picture and out of the box
  • Strong proficiency with MS office is required, especially PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong presenter and confident interacting with all levels of management
  • Excellent teamwork skills for both North American and global offices and associates
  • Driver’s license required and ability to operate a diverse assortment of automobiles. Proficiency with manual transmission preferred but not required.
  • Function as a business owner / product owner / large project lead / or person-in-charge of business development project
