Emergency Veterinarian

Internshiptrainedor experienced emergency doctors wanted for a combination positionin Swansea MA and East Greenwich Rhode Island.

The main hospital isa 26000 sq. ft with dedicated emergency and specialty centres thatserves RI eastern CT and southern MA.

There is no general practiceassociated with the hospitals. Equipment includes digitalradiography ultrasound CT MRI laparoscopy mechanical ventilationtelemetry fluoroscopy and stateoftheart monitoring equipment.

Thestaff includes specialists in internal medicine surgery radiologyemergency / critical care cardiology neurology oncology ophthalmologyand avian / exotics as well as a large group of experienced emergencyclinicians.

The MA hospital is primarily a 24 hour emergency centrebut there is a fulltime surgeon and internists are there four daysa week.

The hospitals are only 20 minutesapart.

Thehospitals place a premium on continuing education. Daily caserounds ensure excellence in case management through collaborativediscussion and provide an opportunity for continuous learning.

There is inhouse education for staff doctors technicians andreferring veterinarians. We have a highly respected internship aswell as emergency / critical care and surgical residencies whichhelps to promote a didactic atmosphere and gives the emergencyclinicians and specialists ample opportunity for teaching as wellas personal professional growth.

The support staff is highlytrained and enthusiastic about continuing education as well. Thetechnicians working in the intensive care unit are capable ofmanaging most nursing cases including those on mechanicalventilation peritoneal dialysis continuous thoracic drainageetc.

Thisposition offers emergency clinicians a unique opportunity to workin a wellequipped stateoftheart facility sidebyside with a largegroup of specialists.

The emergency doctors do not just workevenings and weekends they work many weekdays inpatient shifts aswell giving them the opportunity to manage critical care patientsand benefit from the referral hospital environment.

The emergencyclinicians can choose whether to work at both hospitals or chooseto stay at one location. The MA location will be moving into alarge stateoftheart facility in the spring on 2024.

The RI locationis undergoing expansion as well adding a large new intensive careunit as well as office and teaching space.

The desire to continuelearning and to participate in the teaching of interns and studentex terns is essential and a good sense of humour isessential!

Thecaseload at both hospitals is high and the cases challenging butthe culture is positive and supportive. This is a tremendousenvironment to continue learning and growing but requires someonewith a strong ERfoundation.
