About Central United Methodist Church
Central UMC is a community for Christ in the center of the city. We are the longest ongoing institution in uninterrupted existence in Asheville, NC an eclectic downtown with a vibrant music, arts, and brewery scene.
We are a regional church, drawing worshippers from all over Buncombe County (and beyond).
Central UMC is also a church for everyone without exception. We claimed that stance in 2012 regarding the LGBTQ+ community and are working to apply it to every aspect of our lives.
Sunday morning worship takes place at 8 : 45 and 10 : 55am. Both services are traditional and supported by organ, several choirs, and periodically brass or handbells.
A typical Sunday sees around 300 people attending in-person and around 150 attending online.
Central is planting a congregation at Haw Creek Commons, a former United Methodist Church turned community center in the Haw Creek neighborhood of Asheville.
Over the past year we have seen increases in both attendance and giving that point us in a growing trajectory. We are looking toward a future where are buildings, finances, and staff are aligned toward the goal of inviting an increasing number of everyones into an ever-deepening community of Christ.
