Job Description :
The Technical Program Manager - New Product Engineering is a key member of the GILLIG team, the industry's leading transit bus manufacturer.
Using leadership, Program Management methods, and facilitation expertise, the NPI TPM is responsible for managing GILLIG’s future technological strategy and implementation.
He / she is expected to operate with a minimal amount of supervision under direction from the Director of New Product Engineering.
The overall objective is to merge the voice of the customer, emerging industry trends, and innovative technologies into a strategic road map that culminates with New Product Engineering.
Responsibilities :
- Coordinate with Product Planning, Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, and Production to develop long term product strategy based on market trends, customer needs, emerging technologies, and executive direction.
- Predict competitor future product offerings and the required responses from GILLIG.
- Responsible for long-lead planning and executing of R&D projects.
- Drive investigation and development of new technologies and platforms based on innovation trends.
- Responsible for managing any changes in scope and timeline of projects.
- Position GILLIG for leadership for future new products.
- Working closely with Engineering, responsible for planning and executing NPE projects.
- Work closely with sales in identifying major options requested by customers that could be developed through the NPE process.
- Coordinate with purchasing and production team on production readiness in terms of capacity and approved critical parts manufacturing prior to key product milestones.
- Responsible for managing any changes in scope, timeline of projects and coordinate with other functions (e.g. sales, purchasing, production), and suppliers.
- Responsible for reactively prioritizing team's workload; Understanding causes of delay; suggesting initiatives to fix them.
- Responsible for contributing input as required to help Supervisors and above complete their team’s formal feedback.
Qualifications :
- B.S. in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5 years + in a robust Program Management role required; additional 5 years + in an Engineering or science role preferred.
- Ability to manage highly complex multiple programs to ensure timelines and deliverables are met.
- Experience in Six Sigma, LEAN principles, and other continuous improvement methodologies are highly desired.
- Knowledge of cross functional processes in GILLIG.
- Background in Automotive, Aerospace, or Construction / Commercial Equipment preferred.
- Experience within advanced technology and R&D environments preferred.
- Strong financial acumen to understand stranded cost impacts.
- Strong influencer, independent thinking and strong planning / prioritization with passion for people development and talent management is critical.
- Experienced professional with strong communication skills (written and verbal) who is able to interact with senior management.
- Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization.
- Strong analytic and decision-making abilities. Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office & Project.
ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT and WORKING CONDITIONS :
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Working environment is primarily indoors (office and production environment), however, at times may require time spent outdoors.
Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk; occasionally kneel or squat. May be required to work overtime based on business needs.
Limited domestic travel. Start time 5 : 30 AM.
