As a Mechanical Engineer in the Bellevue Design Center, you will work closely with national industry leaders and local experts to support clients with mechanical engineering.

Some of the exciting upcoming projects for our mechanical engineering group include :

New Lock Final Design : Tetra Tech will be designing a new 1200’ lock to be part of the U.S. Inland Waterway Navigation System.

Work will include designing valves, hydraulic power system, miter gate operators, large spherical bearings, and other miscellaneous equipment associated with miter gates and lock water control systems.

Replacement Valves at an Existing Navigation Lock : Tetra Tech will be developing a design to retrofit culvert valves and the operating machinery into an existing navigation lock.

Detailed work will include developing the hydraulic power system that is compatible with the existing lock machinery and designing a new valve operator for increased reliability and performance.

Your Role and Responsibilities :

Assist with planning and designing water resource and navigation projects such as lock and dams; hydraulic structures such as gates and valves, hoists and cranes, hydropower plants, pump stations;

and mechanical systems associated with ports and harbors.

  • Conduct technical evaluations and site condition assessments.
  • Prepare or modify reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs for project.
  • Prepare design calculations.
  • Direct draftspersons / technicians to convert designs to working drawings.
  • Analyze reports, drawings, tests and interviews to plan and design project
  • Check drawings for accuracy.
  • Responsible for timely completion of reports, design drawings, specifications and contract documents.
  • Assists with developing probable construction cost estimates.
  • Attend client meetings days or nights.
  • Visit construction site to observe progress and other duties per the contract documents.

Requirements / Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4 to 10+ years relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Active Professional Engineering registration (or ability to obtain one in a short period).
  • Experience in conceptual and detailed design of mechanical elements for water resources and navigation structures.
  • Experience in machine design including fluid power, compressed air, pumps, motors, and bearings.
  • Construction support experience a plus.
  • Project management experience a plus, but not required.
  • Knowledge of MicroStation, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys, and Inventor software a plus, but not required.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with USACE or other federal or local government agencies preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with / understanding of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Willing to work both independently and in a team environment, both in person and virtually.
  • Able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and make independent decisions that promote / advance the company goals and objectives.

The salary range or hourly wage for this position is approximately $85,000 to $125,000 depending on education, qualifications, experience and work location.
