About the Role :

We're looking for a Senior Product Design Manager to lead a dynamic team of product designers focused on our Profile, Payments, Purchase, and Extensions teams.

This role assumes responsibility for the quality of the work, our processes, and actively manages the careers and performance of the team.

The Senior Product Design Manager will help shape the strategy for multiple squads in partnership with their cross-functional counterparts, providing design feedback and guidance to their reports, and work across squads to connect the dots across larger strategic initiatives.

Additionally, they will work together with the Senior Director of Product Design, the Director of Research, and the Head of Design Systems to develop a compelling design vision that aligns member needs with business objectives, and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence within the design team.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead and mentor a team of 4 product designers across multiple squads. Dedicate time to mentor and coach them, helping them uplevel their skills and outputs.
  • Craft the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the teams in close collaboration with your cross-functional leaders, aligning business objectives with customer-centered problems.
  • Drive design direction and uphold quality : guide the overall design direction, ensuring quality without compromising velocity.

Understand when it is needed for you to be hands-on in the design work, and when to step back.

  • Foster healthy relationships across Design, Product, Engineering, Research, and Content, maintaining collaboration across teams working on areas that overlap with other experiences.
  • Be involved in the design work from concept to launch, leading regular design critiques and brainstorming sessions.
  • Staffing and career development : ensure proper staffing, provide and gather regular feedback on project progress, team culture, and career growth.
  • Help develop a human-centered design culture, rooted in collaboration and craft excellence.

Minimum Requirements :

  • A track record of championing what’s best for the users while balancing the needs of the business. Hands-on experience in concepting and visualizing experiences through storyboarding, scenarios, flows, and prototypes at all levels of fidelity.
  • Attention to detail, and a strong eye for strong interaction design and visual design principles. Experience leading design research, including competitive analysis, pattern research, qualitative interviews, and synthesis.
  • Ability to effectively communicate design solutions to all audiences, inclusive of executive leadership & the C-suite.
  • Strong project planning, time management, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to cultivate an understanding of industry trends, and inspire and motivate a design team. Proficient with current design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).

Qualification Requirements :

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a design discipline such as Product Design, User Experience, or Interaction Design.
  • Experience : 10+ years of experience in Product Design, including 3+ years of experience in managing design teams.
  • Portfolio : Strong portfolio examples that showcase a broad range of product design work delivered to market, reflecting strong understanding of the user-centered design process, as well as leadership challenges.
  • Experience within an e-commerce or two-sided marketplace with a mobile-first mentality is preferred.

We are a dedicated group of 13 product designers, UX researchers, and UX writers working together to build the most rewarding place to shop.

Location :

This role can be based in San Francisco, San Mateo, or NYC, but it is also eligible for remote employment in the following states : CA, CO, CT, FL, IL, MA, NJ, NY, TX, UT, WI.

Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location.

The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.

USD $151,140.00 - $261,140.00 annually
