Job Description

Summary

The Pharmacy Manager promotes and enforces pharmacy regulations for the Medical University of South Carolina and its entities.

The Pharmacy manager reports directly to the System Director of Medication use and Standards, Medication Safety and Compliance.

  • Responsibilities include (but not limited to) oversight of area audits (nursing units, clinics and pharmacy spaces); collaboration with nursing, clinic, and pharmacy leadership to become compliant or maintain compliance with standards and regulations;
  • routine review and alignment of policies across the MUSC entities; serve as the point person for accrediting body surveys or questions;

and supervisory oversight of a of auditing pharmacists and / or technicians. Serves as a role model and expert in pharmacy regulatory requirements and standards.

This position will primarily remote with frequent travel to MUSC sites required

Job Description

This position is primarily remote with frequent travel to MUSC sites required.

  • Serves as the liaison between each pharmacy, NPDs and the Pharmacy ICCE Leadership team.
  • Enforces departmental policies and procedures and ensures compliance with pertinent state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Recruits, hires, coordinates training, timely evaluates, promotes development and disciplines staff. Makes effective recommendation for promotion, demotion, and termination.

Responds to employee grievances according to established grievance procedures

  • Ensures staff members are trained and able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the services required
  • Develops, evaluates and revises departmental policies and procedures when required.
  • Ensures satisfactory relationships with other departments.
  • Facilitates solutions to problems and resolves complaints regarding departmental services and activities.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings and routinely meets individually with staff to review performance, solve problems, promote efficiency, and disseminate information from other meetings or departments
  • Coordinates staff schedules and daily work schedules of assigned personnel. Responsible for payroll system for assigned subordinates.
  • Sets example for other pharmacists and technicians in work quality, efficiency, productivity, and personal conduct standards.
  • Routinely meet with direct reports

Participates on departmental and medical center committees.

Job Description

Education : Pharm D and completion of a residency preferred or equivalent experience.

Work Experience : Minimum of 5 years' experience.

Extensive knowledge of Board of Pharmacy laws and rules and Joint Commission and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) accreditation standards preferred

Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR / AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider within 3 months of hire date.
