UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Health Sciences Library (HSL) is the primary library for the UNC-Chapel Hill Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health and the University of North Carolina Hospitals.

It also serves the health information needs of the entire university. HSL is open to the public and users have free access to the open collections.

Collections contain over , volumes, including recent and historical materials, 4, current serial titles, and over 8, audiovisual and microcomputer software programs.

HSL has four departments including :

Information & Access Services (IAS) Department : Provides information, education, circulation, and other services to users on and off campus services that meet users’ information needs and are of high quality : accurate, convenient, and courteous.

The department strives to put information at the fingertips of those who use it to discover and learn, to teach, and to make health care decisions.

The Clinical, Academic, and Research Engagement (CARE) Department : Provides client-centered information, education, and research services to support the UNC Medical Center and the University’s schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and public health.

Librarians in this department have expertise in evidence-based practice, literature searching, evidence synthesis, and interprofessional education.

The Clinical and Statewide Engagement (CaSE) Department : Provides client-centered information, education, and research services to support the UNC Medical Center, the University’s health affairs schools, the North Carolina AHEC Libraries, and UNC global health work.

Librarians in this department have expertise in evidence-based practice, literature searching, evidence synthesis, global health, and health literacy.

The Health Research Services (HRS) Department : Supports health affairs schools, the UNC medical center, and other campus partners.

HRS staff have expertise in data services including assessing and visualizing research impact and scope, managing and sharing research data, and developing innovative, technology-driven services for campus researchers.

The Business Services Coordinator in the Health Sciences Library will provide administrative support services to Health Sciences Library staff including the Associate University Librarian for Health Sciences and Director of the Health Science Librarian and Health Sciences Library Department Heads.

This position is primarily based at the Health Sciences Library and may involve providing on-site support at other campus library locations as needed.

All staff members are encouraged to support University Libraries by serving on groups and teams. The University Libraries support participation in professional activities including attendance at local, regional, and national meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience - Demonstrated organizational skills.

  • Ability to analyze, interpret, recommend, and implement policy and procedural guidelines.
  • Skill in organizing workflow and coordinating activities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff in varied positions and to work effectively in team situations.
  • Ability to assess and respond expeditiously to situations and circumstances.
  • Considerable knowledge of office techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to coordinate use of a wide variety of computer, office, and presentation equipment. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience - Experience providing administrative services in an office environment.
  • Experience in an academic or library setting. Required Licenses / Certifications Special Physical / Mental Requirements The primary work environment is in the Health Sciences Library (HSL).

Periodically, this position may be required to work in other library locations on campus. All of the work to be performed requires mental concentration and attention to detail.

Libraries are currently an area of rapid change as we respond to the impact of online information and the evolution of the means of transmitting information.

The individual in this position is expected to stay aware of such changes and participate in a dynamic culture of exploration and experimentation in how library services are provided.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act.

This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
