Heavy Equipment and Diesel Mechanic

Pay Range : 24 - 31 DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE

Position Overview : We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment and Diesel Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and diagnosing issues in heavy equipment, machinery, and diesel engines.

Your expertise will contribute to the safe and efficient operation of our fleet, ensuring minimal downtime and maximizing productivity.

Responsibilities :

Maintenance and Repair : Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and trucks.

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues to ensure optimal performance.

  • Troubleshooting : Diagnose problems and determine the root cause of equipment malfunctions. Utilize diagnostic tools, manuals, and experience to identify and resolve issues promptly.
  • Diesel Engine Repair : Conduct repairs and overhauls on diesel engines, including fuel systems, cooling systems, and electrical components.

Ensure engines are functioning efficiently and meeting emission standards.

  • Parts and Inventory Management : Maintain an inventory of necessary parts, tools, and equipment. Order parts as needed and ensure accurate record-keeping of repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Safety and Compliance : Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance and repairs. Ensure equipment meets required safety standards before returning to service.
  • Documentation : Create detailed reports of maintenance and repair activities, including work performed, parts used, and time spent.

Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance history.

Preventive Maintenance : Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all heavy equipment and diesel engines.

Perform routine inspections to identify potential issues before they become major problems.

Collaboration : Coordinate with the operations team to schedule maintenance and repairs, minimizing equipment downtime and disruption to operations.

Collaborate with other mechanics and technicians to share knowledge and best practices.

Training and Support : Provide guidance and support to operators on proper equipment usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques.

Conduct training sessions as necessary to enhance equipment operation and safety awareness.

Continuous Improvement : Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies in heavy equipment and diesel engines.

Recommend improvements and upgrades to enhance equipment performance and longevity.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience : High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or technical training in heavy equipment mechanics or diesel engine repair is preferred.

Proven experience as a heavy equipment and diesel mechanic is essential.

Technical Skills : In-depth knowledge of heavy equipment systems, including mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components.

Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and associated systems. Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software.

Analytical Skills : Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities to identify issues and provide effective solutions.

Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.

  • Safety Consciousness : Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with safety regulations. Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures for heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Detail-Oriented : Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate diagnosis, repairs, and record-keeping. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Physical Stamina : Capable of lifting heavy equipment parts and performing physically demanding tasks. Comfortable working in different weather conditions and confined spaces.
  • Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and operators.

Ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
