Posting Summary Functional Position Title VETERINARY TECHNICIAN Position Number Appointment Type Location-City New Orleans School / Division ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES Department Animal Laboratories-Downtown c Position Summary Under direct supervision of the Laboratory Technician Supervisor, incumbent in this position will provide medical and surgical technical care of the research animals at LSUHSC.
The incumbent in this position will oversee daily operations and ensure compliance with specifications for accreditation, USDA inspections, DEA inspections and NIH guidelines.
This position will assist new faculty and staff in implementing proper animal handling, anesthesia use and monitoring, animal treatments, surgical instrument use and maintenance, animal identification methods and SPF technique.
Incumbent is expected to have mastered oral, intramuscular, intravenous, intraperitoneal, and subcutaneous medication administration and be able to recognize subtle signs of illness in all laboratory animals.
The incumbent in this position will be expected to perform and coordinate diagnostic procedures. Additional Position Information Minimum Qualifications
