Job Summary
To the extent of the abilities and training, operate, assemble, inspect, and repair substations and substation equipment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Perform switching operations as directed during regular working hours.
Assemble, install, inspect, adjust, check, and repair portable and permanent substation equipment, including but not limited to bus work, transformers, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, re-closers, batteries and battery chargers, rectifiers, disconnects and switches, fuse holders, circuit switchers, lighting arrestors, capacitors, potential devices, switchgear equipment, and steel and wooden structures.
Operate various test instruments in the evaluation of electrical equipment.
Work on energized equipment under supervision.
Read and record equipment counters, operations, load readings, pressures, etc., where provided.
Install, remove and repair bus work, switch boxes, grounding equipment, and receptacles.
Inspect, tag, stencil and repair distribution and substation equipment.
Install and repair power operated switches, controls and switchboard panels.
Maintain and repair hydro generating equipment, such as rotors, exciters, stators, and governors.
Maintain and repair power tools, motors, generators, air compressors and pumps.
Install, remove, and repair duct, conduit, conductors, switches, and electrical fixtures.
Perform maintenance work on substation buildings and grounds; make additions and repairs to substation buildings, structures and fences.
Maintain microwave towers and microwave tower lighting systems and antennae.
Take and test oil samples.
Connect and operate oil filtering equipment.
Solder and tape conductors.
Take reasonable care of Company tools and equipment assigned to them.
Keep assigned equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
Direct and instruct employees assigned to work with them.
Assist in the training of other employees.
Perform similar or less skilled work in this classification or, when the diversity of work load requires, perform similar or less skilled work in equal or lower classifications.
Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules and operating regulations and practices.
Complete any reports and forms used in connection with performance of duties.
Required Qualifications for Position
High School Diploma or the equivalent.
Have the ability to receive a passing grade in all Apprentice Substation Electrician Training Courses, provided by the Company.
Have a valid Commercial Driver's License.
