About the College-Conservatory of Music

The University of Cincinnati's nationally ranked and internationally renowned College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) is a preeminent institution for the performing and media arts.

The school’s educational roots date back to 1867, and a solid, visionary instruction has been at its core since that time.

Declared "one of this country's leading conservatories" by the New York Times, CCM offers 10 degree types (BA, BFA, BM, MFA, MA, MM, MME, AD, DMA, PhD) in approximately 120 possible majors, along with a variety of pre-collegiate and post-graduate programs and workshops.

The college also offers academic minors in both media production and music. The synergy created by housing CCM within a comprehensive public university gives the college its unique character and defines its objective : to educate and inspire the whole artist and scholar for positions on the world stage.

116 full-time faculty members and 151 part-time faculty members provide personalized mentorship, guiding students in their individual scholarly, creative, musical, performing and teaching growth.

CCM’s student enrollment for Fall 2023 totaled 1,403. This number included 883 undergraduate students and 520 graduate students.

CCM’s current student population comes to Cincinnati from 41 different states and 41 different countries. International students represent roughly 23% of the student body.

CCM provides students with professionally oriented immersive experiences in order to prepare them to enter directly into performing and media arts careers.

As the largest single source of performing arts events in Ohio, CCM presents nearly 1,000 major public performances each year.

Students are involved in each step of the process from planning to performing, both on stage and behind-the-scenes.

CCM's dynamic and influential alumni network includes over 14,300 artists, teachers, entrepreneurs, researchers, leaders and professionals who are active in the arts on a global scale.

Many of the college’s graduates have achieved notable success in the performing and media arts, and 97% of recent graduates are currently working or continuing their education.

About Ensembles and Conducting

CCM’s Division of Ensembles and Conducting offers professional training programs for choral, orchestral and wind conductors leading to MM and DMA degrees, as well as programs for jazz musicians leading to BM and MM degrees.

The division also offers a BM in commercial music production and is home to a chamber music department. The division provides ensemble experiences for CCM students that offer professional training in ensemble rehearsal, performance, musicianship, technique, style and repertoire.

Performing ensembles rest at the foundation of a great school of music. CCM’s student musicians acquire extensive experience performing the major ensemble literature of their discipline and gain rigorous training in performing as ensemble members under the leadership of conductors.

The division’s professional training programs provide an education in the arts enabling CCM’s conductors, jazz musicians and commercial music artists to assume leadership roles as professional conductors, performers and educators and to meet the challenges of the 21st century with flexibility and ingenuity.

The successes of graduates of CCM’s ensembles and conducting programs are attested to by the numerous alumni working internationally as conductors, performers, recording artists, educators and scholars.

Job Overview

The Program Manager position for CCM's Division of Ensembles and Conducting assists the Division in Administrative and Financial tasks including (but not limited to) : Ordering and managing supplies and equipment, the purchase and rental of sheet music for performance, arranging for travel and accommodations for guest lecturers / performers, processing payments and contracts for guest artists / lecturers / performer, the administration of course evaluations, and assisting the Unit Head in day-to-day administrative matters.

Essential Functions

  • Manage and administrate departmental programs. Perform program needs assessment and make recommendations.
  • Implement policies and procedures.
  • Maintain budget, prepare contracts, approve and monitor expenditures, prepare budget requests and financial reports.
  • Act as liaison to internal departments, external entities and community organizations.
  • May prepare and edit reports and / or newsletters and develop publication materials.
  • May provide direct and / or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring / firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant

work experience and / or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Arts Administration degree, certification, and / or arts-related administrative experience.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Office environment / no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.

  • Competitive salary range of $50,000 - $52,000, dependent on the candidate's experience.
