Job Summary : The Senior Advancement Director for Student Success Advancement will lead fundraising efforts in support of philanthropic priorities of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs as outlined and in support of the divisions of Student Affairs, Scholarships & Financial Aid, Undergraduate Studies, Honors College, and the Graduate School.

Reporting to the Principal Advancement Director for Student Success, the senior director will manage a major and principal gift portfolio, identifying new prospects, and stewarding relationships to expand the funding for student success initiatives at the University.

This position will lead major fundraising initiatives, build annual development plans, and track progress toward goals to expand funding to meet the needs of students across campus.

The senior director will work closely with the principal gifts and donor relations teams to ensure coordinated efforts around some of the University’s largest donors.

In addition, the senior director will manage a small team of development professionals and work closely with the principal advancement director of Student Success to build and maintain a cohesive, collaborative and productive fundraising team.

Additionally, the senior director will ensure accurate and timely reporting of fundraising efforts to Student Success Advancement area campus leaders.

Responsibilities :

Maintain a portfolio of major and principal gift donors. Proactively identify new prospects, steward existing relationships, and work to increase overall fundraising efforts in support of the student success priorities of the university.

Participate cooperatively in the University’s prospect management and tracking system, and help maintain alumni and donor records.

Manage a small team of development staff, ensuring fundraising team members are trained on priorities, and given the tools and resources they need to succeed.

Work with team members to set metrics and goals, and provide guidance, training, and professional development opportunities.

Ensure accountability for the team’s fundraising metrics.

  • Collaborate with the U’s local and national foundations staff to identify and submit proposals to support student initiatives.
  • In coordination with the Principal Advancement Director for Student Success, and the Chief Philanthropy Officer, establish annual development plans and goals for top campus student success priorities, and work with university leadership and the advancement communications team to develop and update case statements in support of these efforts.

Design, implement, and manage proactive development plans to expand funding for student success from annual giving strategies to major and principal gift solicitations.

  • Model a One U advancement mindset by collaborating closely with advancement professionals across campus and maintaining a donor-centric fundraising mindset.
  • Participate in professional organizations and build a network with peer institutions to raise visibility of the University and gain awareness of emerging trends in the field.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience);

eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.

Masters degree in Business Administration, or related area preferred.

Highly Preferred Qualifications :

  • Eight or more years of direct fundraising experience in higher education advancement, with a proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward leadership gifts at the six and seven-figure levels.
  • Demonstrated experience managing advancement professionals, mentoring team members, and / or volunteer management.
  • Master’s degree in public administration, or non-profit management, business administration, or related field.
