Position Overview : The successful candidate will set methods and criteria for execution of customer repair work for various types of rotating equipment (Steam Turbines, Centrifugal Compressors, Axial Compressors, and other associated equipment). Repair work will include overhauls, general maintenance, upgrades, and rerates for OEM and non-OEM equipment.
Purpose of the Job :
The Shop Engineer will engineer repair solutions, ensure the technical integrity of all work performed in the Repair Shop, and act as a technical liaison for the repair shop team, field service, and sales personnel. The primary objective is to ensure proper technical oversight of mechanical repair and modernization work within the Houston Service Center.
Background and Experience :
- Bachelor of Science Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace), Engineering Technology, or equivalent four-year degree.
- Min. 7-8 years of experience with rotors, compressor, and turbine repairs, inspections, and overhauls, including at least 5 years working with Steam Turbines and Centrifugal Compressors.
- 2+ years' experience in shop engineering, fabrication, machining, and creating industrial drawings.
- Experience with repair methods such as Welding, Coating, Assembly, and Disassembly of complex equipment.
- Basic knowledge of metallurgy, material selection, and heat treatments.
Specific Job Responsibilities :
Work overtime as needed.Recommend safe work practices across the plant.Meet and exceed annual objectives.Provide technical assistance regarding tooling and machining practices.Support continuous improvement activities, safety culture, and housekeeping.Handle non-conformities systematically and review product non-conformances.Archive engineering records systematically.Design tooling and fixtures.Ensure Quality Assurance Plans are followed, providing engineering support and repair recommendations.Set methods and criteria for repair work in conjunction with the Lead Engineer.Create Work Packages with process and material specifications.Ensure technical integrity of repair work and recommend process improvements.Prepare Repair Proposals and Customer Reports.Assist during repair execution and support sales in quotations.Reverse engineering of non-complex non-Elliott products for repairs.Apply standard techniques, procedures, CAD, and criteria for service engineering assignments.Collaborate with departments to resolve shop troubles.Coordinate with engineering on specifications, manufacturing, and testing.Prepare and review drawings, manuals, and work instructions.Review customer specifications and assist in inspections and tests.Apply engineering principles to develop repair recommendations.Support reverse engineering for complex non-Elliott products.Review work scopes to ensure alignment with repair recommendations and contracts.Specific Knowledge :
Knowledge of NDT methods (PT, MT, UT, etc.) for engineering purposes.Proficiency with measurement tools and 3D metrology fundamentals.Familiarity with ISO, ASME, API codes and standards.Advanced skills in 3D modeling and technical drawings (CREO preferred).Basic AutoCAD and FEA knowledge.Understanding of Turbomachinery repair processes and cost optimization.Skills :
