Overview
Base pay range : $86,441.00 / yr - $93,000.00 / yr. This position is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of optical thin film manufacturing processes, providing subject matter expertise and support for said processes, and facilitating continual improvement of Thorlabs' coated optics products. Location : Newton, NJ, with potential duties at other Thorlabs locations as required by the company.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide technical knowledge and documentation of the thin film manufacturing lab to production staff and Tech Support / Specialists / OEM inquiries. Topics include vacuum discipline; coating equipment operation; coating process principles; substrate preparation, handling, and integration into the coating environment; coating fixture design principles; process monitoring and feedback.
- Manage process implementation and provide documented feedback.
- Lead engineering projects by utilizing resources and applying process optimization concepts to manufacturing.
- Operate and utilize metrology instruments for thin film characterization.
- Identify failures by root cause analysis of thin film processes and document supporting data.
- Document installation and onboarding of new equipment with direction from senior members.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior members with guidance from engineering trainers.
Requirements
Qualifications
Experience : 4+ years of optical thin film coating experience in a manufacturing environment.Experience with thin film software and a good understanding of optical thin film design.Strong experience maintaining and troubleshooting coating equipment.Education
Minimum bachelor\'s degree in physics, materials science, or one of the engineering disciplines.Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Ability and desire to work in a team environment and to interact with production supervisors, technicians, and design engineers.Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.Skilled in writing work instructions and visual aids.Independent work with limited supervision (less than 25% of the time).Strong problem solving / analysis skills and attention to detail.Confidentiality and ethical conduct.Ability to take direction and follow procedures.SolidWorks, GD\'T for coating fixture design.TF Calc or Optilayer for coating analysis.Coating process design for manufacturing.Physical vapor deposition theory, vacuum pump theory, film thickness control methods.Material preparation and machine maintenance.Pay and Benefits
The estimated pay range for this role is $69,000 - $93,940 annually.
