Young Invincibles (“YI”) is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization working to expand economic opportunity for young people ages 18 to 34 and to amplify their voices in the national political conversation and policy arena. Founded by and for young adults in the summer of 2009 during the debate over health care reform, YI has quickly grown into a leading voice for young people on the issues of healthcare, higher education, pathways to jobs / workforce and civic engagement. The organization has achieved major successes in areas ranging from the regulation of college health plans to Pell grants and has successfully engaged hundreds of thousands of young adults online through a network of over 100 partner organizations. Our regional offices (California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Texas) have increased grant aid for low-income college students, expanded funding for community colleges, and ensured undocumented students can access in-state tuition.

Principal Responsibilities :

As a member of the development department, the Development Manager will support all activities and efforts related to resource development for the organization.

The Development Manager will be primarily responsible for overseeing the organization’s grant fundraising, including researching, writing, and submitting compelling proposals and reports to private foundations, corporations, and government funders (local, state, and federal).

The Development Manager will play a key role in identifying and securing funding to support the organization's national advocacy efforts and its collaborative work with state-level partners and initiatives. They will manage funder relationships and ensure compliance with all grant regulations and reporting requirements.

Location : Washington, DC or Los Angeles, CA

Salary Range : $78,000 - $81,151.20

Supervisor : Vice President, Advancement

Direct Report : Development Coordinator

Duties include :

• Lead grant proposal development and submission process, including researching new funding opportunities at local, state, and federal levels.
• Draft and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports tailored to each funder's mission and guidelines.
• Collaborate closely with program staff, finance, and leadership to gather necessary information, data, stories, and outcomes to support proposals and reporting.
• Maintain a grants calendar, track deadlines, and ensure timely submission of applications and reports.
• Manage a portfolio of foundation funders and cultivate strong relationships through regular communication and engagement.
• Ensure compliance with all grant requirements, including financial reporting, outcome measurement, and program evaluations.
• Develop and maintain a library of grant support documents, such as resumes, bios, IRS forms, and board / staff diversity lists.
• Stay current on philanthropy news, policy reports, and best practices in grant writing, particularly as they relate to advocacy and state-level initiatives.
• Build, design and maintain organization development materials including updates, reports, newsletters and emails.
• Participate in relevant meetings, workshops, and events to expand knowledge and network with funders and colleagues.
• Collaborate with the development team and other departments to achieve fundraising goals and advance the organization's mission.
