Key Roles and Duties
Support high-impact business initiatives by contributing to meaningful projects that directly support business objectives and client outcomes
Collaborate on strategic presentations and research projects, contributing to PowerPoint and Excel deliverables and analytical materials that inform key business decision-making
Support a variety of projects by helping to coordinate project materials and meetings to ensure seamless information flow across teams

Position Summary :
The 10-week summer internship program is designed to challenge students by providing opportunities to provide hand-on experiences, skills training and valuable professional networking to assist students with identifying and building on their career interests. This role gains experience and an overall feel for the company and the financial services industry by attending meetings, delivering presentations, exploring business-specific tasks, and working closely with cross-functional groups to better understand the Nuveen businesses.
The program includes a robust training and onboarding program followed by our ongoing speaker series, lunch-and-learns, and cohort engagement activities, as well as direct access to executive and senior leadership, mentors and previous interns.
Key Responsibilities and Duties :

Client Portfolio Management :
Client Portfolio Management (CPM) is an expert portion of our investment teams working in partnership with and across distribution channels in support of new business development, relationship growth, and client retention. The team is organized by asset class, providing specialized expertise within municipals, taxable fixed income, equities, and public real assets.
Client Portfolio Management professionals demonstrate Nuveen's investment expertise through specialized representations of our research and investment capabilities, competitive product positioning, and timely market perspectives.
Client Portfolio Managers act as market-facing proxies for the portfolio management team, communicating investment strategy, process, and results to clients and prospects, thereby enabling PMs to focus the majority of their time on portfolio management.
Global Strategy :
The Global Strategy intern will play a supporting role in advancing the growth of our equities and fixed income business. This will include ongoing research, analysis and support for new and existing strategies and client relationships. In addition, the analyst will assist in early-stage research into new asset classes, business partners, markets, and geographies as avenues for growing the business. The analyst will actively work with the Global Strategy Group Analyst and is driven, able to learn on the job, and will be able to contribute immediately.
Business Strategy and Specialist Relations NEFI :
The Business strategy and specialist relations intern will support the Business Strategy and Specialist Relations Team within Nuveen's Equities and Fixed Income organization, which represents over $850 billion in assets under management across several distinguished investment specialists. The Team is responsible for planning and executing the organization's strategic initiatives designed to position its investment capabilities for growth and strong performance. Many of the initiatives underway are transformative, and are focused on investment team integrations, restructurings, operating model optimization, and compensation / incentive plan design. Additional responsibilities include managing relationships with investment specialists; partnering with Nuveen's distribution, product, and marketing teams to showcase investment capabilities to clients; working closely with shared services (human resources, information technology, operations and finance) on cross-functional projects; and reporting on strategic initiatives to Nuveen and TIAA's Boards and other stakeholders.
Equity or Fixed Income Research :
Interns could join our research team, specializing in either Equity or Fixed Income Research. This internship provides the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in analyzing stocks (equities) or bonds (fixed income) to support investment decision-making. Ideal for individuals that are passionate about financial markets, this internship offers a valuable foundation for a career in investment research.
Conduct company and industry analysis by collecting and evaluating financial data and market trends
Build and maintain financial models to forecast company performance
Prepare equity research reports and recommendations for portfolio managers and senior analysts
Analyze fixed income instruments, including corporate and government bonds, and assess credit markets
Assist in creating financial models to evaluate bond performance and risk factors
Generate reports on fixed income trends and provide investment recommendations
Private Placements :
The Private Placements team offers hands-on experience supporting the origination, execution, and management of private debt and equity transactions. As an intern, you'll work directly with senior investment professionals to analyze investment opportunities across a diverse range of asset classes including fixed income, equity, derivatives, and alternative investments.
During this internship, you'll develop essential skills in financial modeling, valuation techniques, and transaction execution while drafting key materials such as private placement memorandums, investor presentations, and market updates. You'll help evaluate relative value, establish asset allocation strategies, and track portfolio performance across private placement portfolios. This internship provides valuable exposure to live transactions and client-facing business initiatives, allowing you to participate in due diligence sessions and contribute to portfolio management decisions.
This experience offers an excellent foundation in alternative investments while developing both technical finance capabilities and client relationship skills that will enhance your versatility as a finance professional at Nuveen.
