This leadership role offers the opportunity to shape and drive the development of scalable, responsible, and high-performance AI systems. You will oversee a team of engineers and research scientists, delivering AI-powered products that transform user experiences and operational workflows. The role involves defining technical vision, making strategic build-versus-buy decisions, and introducing state-of-the-art AI techniques in production systems. You will collaborate across functions to ensure AI applications are reliable, efficient, and aligned with business objectives. Accountabilities :
The Director of AI Engineering will lead initiatives that drive AI innovation and operational excellence :
- Oversee the design, development, deployment, and support of AI software components, including foundation model training, LLM inference, similarity search, guardrails, and model evaluation.
- Make strategic decisions across open-source and SaaS AI technologies to optimize system performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing AI engineering team, fostering professional growth and a culture of technical excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and technical program managers, to deliver AI-powered solutions that impact millions of users.
- Develop and maintain the long-term technical vision and roadmap for foundational AI systems.
- Introduce and implement state-of-the-art optimization techniques for large-scale production AI systems.
Requirements
Candidates should have deep experience in AI systems engineering and leadership :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, or related field plus 8+ years of experience in AI / ML development, or Master’s degree plus 6+ years.Minimum 3 years of people management experience, with preference for 5+ years leading engineering teams.Proven experience deploying scalable, responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent).Strong foundation in mathematics, software, and hardware, with the ability to optimize AI systems effectively.Hands-on experience with AI / ML technologies, including LLMs, PyTorch, Huggingface, VectorDBs, and guardrail frameworks.Ability to interpret scientific research and apply novel AI techniques judiciously in production.Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills; ability to articulate complex AI concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.Adaptability in navigating undefined problems, resilience in trailblazing new technical paths, and a passion for mentoring and growing technical talent.Benefits
