Job Description and Duties
Do you have a high degree of initiative and enjoy working with others in a team setting? Are you able to communicate effectively and tactfully with the public? Can you type at a speed of 45 words per minute? If you answered yes to all the questions, this Senior Legal Typist (SLT) position with the Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) may be for you.
DWC within the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) administers workers' compensation claims and provides services to resolve disputes with claims for workers' compensation benefits. The SLT performs meaningful secretarial work and collaborates with the Legal Support Supervisor I (LSSI) to manage case assignments. The SLT prepares and serves orders, decisions and correspondence and provides secretarial and clerical support to the Workers' Compensation Judge (WCJ) assigned. The SLT uses the Electronic Adjudication Management System (EAMS) to manage tasks, process documents, and manage the judge's calendar.
Effective July 1, 2025, some Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% and 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). For details, please visit the CalHR website.

Working Conditions
This position is located at :
464 W. Fourth Street, Suite 239, San Bernardino, CA 92401
The San Bernardino office is accessible from multiple freeways and is near local amenities. Telework is available two days per week. Parking is $15.00 per month. The SLT works 40 hours per week in a smoke-free office with LED lighting, controlled temperature, and standard office equipment. The SLT attends meetings in designated conference rooms and may travel for off-site trainings. The role requires teamwork and independent work.
The SLT reports to the Legal Support Supervisor I and the Presiding Workers' Compensation Judge.
Special Requirements
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Typing certificate of 45 words per minute. Ability to read and write English at the required level, establish and maintain effective working relationships, communicate effectively, follow directions, analyze situations, take action with good judgment, and manage time and resources.
