Job Description
Under the guidance of the Executive Director, and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Youth Development Director is responsible for the development, management, and administrative operations of all youth and family programs at the Harrisburg YMCA including but not limited to : teen leadership, before / after school, day camp, Playhouse, special youth and family events and future new programs related to youth.
The Youth Development Director will implement character development as a chief mission of the YMCA and will personally exhibit a commitment to the goal in all YMCA operations.
The Harrisburg YMCA is in the midst of building a new YMCA. The Youth Development Director will be responsible for developing transition plans and implementing those for an estimated August 2025 opening.

Qualifications
Know How :
Incumbent must pass YMCA background checks and successfully complete and maintain CPR / AED and First Aid certifications or the ability to acquire them within 30 days of employment.

- BA / BS degree in related field is preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with youth and families
- Knowledge of childcare, camp, B / A school, family, and teen programming

- Must be attentive to details, be able to work with and meet deadlines, take initiative to develop and provide information and controls necessary for safe and efficient operations
- Must be able to take initiative in making decisions and solving problems in the areas of assigned responsibilities and in the best interests of the YMCA
- Ability to work efficiently independently with little supervision
- Organizational, time management & problem / conflict resolution abilities

Essential Functions
Principle Responsibilities :
- R.O.S.T.E.R. (recruit, orient, supervise, train, monitor, evaluate and reward) all youth development staff & volunteers to include : B / A school staff, program coordinators, site supervisors, camp counselors, teen leaders staff, and / or others as applicable.
- Ensure development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of all youth development programs and related activities.
- Responsible for the development, implementation, and tracking of all youth development budgets and sound fiscal management of the entire department and all program / activities and events therein.
- Attendance, active participation and leadership in all staff and committee meetings.
- Develop, present and maintain a quality image throughout all related departments & facilities.
- Responsible for the promotion and marketing of all related youth development programs and events.
- Responsible for the supervision and safety of all children within department, including the appropriate discipline within established guidelines.
- Administer successful modification and expansion of new and existing youth development programs in keeping with quality standards, annual goals and key indicators.
- Implement quality control of all youth development programs and activities through the use of all quality management tools.
- Directly responsible for securing off-site areas as needed to conduct youth development programs.
- Oversee operation of playhouse in coordination with fitness / membership needs including staffing.
- Plan, schedule, promote & implement monthly youth development program events.
- Develop and maintain monthly reports to include but not limited to : Executive Department reports, Finance Variance Statements, Evaluation Templates, Enrollment tracking, Payment Administration.
- Assist in association-wide functions to include but not limited to : Annual Support Campaign, Seasonal Capital Campaign, Marketing Plans, Quality Initiatives, Events, Management and Training.
- Perform additional responsibilities and other duties or activities as assigned by Senior Program Director, Executive Director and association staff.
