Position Highlights

The new interdisciplinary School of Mining & Mineral Resources (SMMR) is seeking a Recruitment Outreach Coordinator to join our team.

The ideal candidate will be passionate, enthusiastic, and have strong communication skills to develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract top talent to mining and minerals education programs.

The role involves collaborating with and fostering relationships with University of Arizona faculty, staff, students, and external partners (community college and high school counselors, administrators and advisers, community-based organizations, and mining related organizations) to plan and execute recruitment events, presentations, and promote the school's related programs and incredible opportunities for students.

The position will focus on implementing a dynamic recruitment strategy at the University of Arizona and high schools and community colleges throughout Arizona.

This role supports and collaborates with the Senior Recruitment Outreach Coordinator.

The role will require primarily in-state travel of up to 50%.

Duties & Responsibilities

Coordination :

  • Work closely with the Senior Recruitment Outreach Coordinator to plan and coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the recruitment strategy that includes campus and virtual programs and outreach events for prospective students.
  • Coordinate, partner with, and facilitate recruitment efforts across internal and external stakeholders, including the University departments, student groups and clubs, faculty, educators, and industry organizations.
  • Coordinate with others on campus (SMMR education outreach coordinator, student club officers, College of Engineering recruitment, etc.

to understand resources and opportunities, existing programs and best practices, and collaboration potential.

Coordinate with others on and off campus to secure input to program, materials for use.

Implementation :

Organize and participate in events where discussion of programs and careers is included, in coordination with internal stakeholders, including Admissions, Career Center, and student groups (e.

g., Society of Women Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Society of Earth Science Students). The focus will be on implementing a dynamic recruitment strategy at the University of Arizona, high schools, and community colleges throughout the state of Arizona.

Identify and secure opportunities to get messages in front of target audiences through presentations, tours, and personalized meetings.

This work will include the utilization of the San Xavier Underground Mining Laboratory Facility.

  • Maintain recruitment related information on the School of Mining & Mineral Resources website and Mining and Geological Engineering website as appropriate.
  • Meet with, advise and connect prospective and current students with mining and mineral resources degrees, programs, careers, and other resources available to them at the University and beyond.
  • Serve as a point of contact for current students as well as prospective student / family inquiries and / or visits. Counsel and advise prospective students and parents on educational planning, career opportunities, admission requirements, and other program related information.
  • Foster student success through providing a warm and welcoming environment for prospective and admitted students.

Communications :

  • Manage recruitment communications, including digital and social media, newsletters, and videos.
  • Actively maintain network of contacts up to date and informed on opportunities to engage with the School of Mining & Mineral Resources.
  • Partner with marketing, senior administration, faculty, and external partners to develop recruitment materials (including brochures, web page information and other content).
  • Conduct information sessions and orientations for prospective and admitted students.
  • Communicate via in-person and virtual channels and respond to requests for information in a timely and accurate manner.

Evaluation :

  • Gathers data, analyzes, and prepares reports to measure effectiveness and reports with stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and interpret program effectiveness while developing and implementing improved methods, devise evaluation methodology and implement, analyze results and take proper action based on outcome.
  • Seek input and feedback from internal stakeholders to develop and update development plans to take advantage of the resources available on campus that center on student recruiting, advising, and support.
  • Develop new approaches, methods or techniques for recruitment outreach through innovation and creativity.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure students entering the programs receive support (e.g., advising, career planning, etc.).

Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and productive working relationships.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with changing priorities as needed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to think strategically with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and also work effectively in a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy .

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience working with diverse communities. Previous experience building and guiding teams.
  • Experience coordinating and overseeing project activities.
