Position Summary :
The Chief Engineer oversees the maintenance department, leading the team to complete various projects effectively and safely.
This role involves collaborating with other engineers and technicians to approve designs, calculate costs, negotiate contracts, and execute plans.
The Chief Engineer ensures the safety of guests, team members, and vendors by managing and supervising all property systems and maintenance activities.
They must ensure compliance with preventative maintenance programs, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and all relevant building, fire, and health codes while striving to maintain the property’s energy efficiency.

Main Duties and Responsibilities :
Adhere to the hotel’s mission and standards in all maintenance activities.
Maximize the potential of the maintenance team with a balanced focus on operational efficiency, guest satisfaction, employee morale, and owner expectations.
Represent the engineering department in daily morning meetings.
Prioritize, plan, schedule, assign, and supervise the engineering staff to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks and projects.
Oversee maintenance tasks, work orders, and special projects, ensuring they are completed efficiently and accurately.
Address and resolve guests' maintenance needs promptly, providing professional, courteous service in line with hotel standards.
Maintain the hotel's physical appearance and operational efficiency, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Oversee the installation and maintenance of equipment related to HVAC, ETAC, water treatment, fire safety, and other systems.
Ensure accurate records are maintained for all plant and equipment, including repair and service histories.
Prepare and submit reports as required by the Executive Housekeeper and General Manager.
Ensure materials, equipment, and tools are kept clean and safe, and maintain cleanliness and safety in all mechanical equipment rooms.
Attend Facility Management and Property meetings, sharing necessary information with the maintenance team during junior staff meetings.
Ensure proper use and periodic maintenance of all equipment.
Perform regular property inspections and ensure that all areas, including grounds and workspaces, meet safety and operational standards.
Establish and maintain appropriate inventory levels for equipment and supplies. Provide training on inventory management and ordering procedures.
Train staff on correct maintenance procedures and assist with repairs as needed.
Maintain, monitor, and test the hotel's emergency systems.
Discuss maintenance status and inspection reports with the General Manager, Owner, and Department Heads. Respond to corporate and management inquiries.
Develop, implement, and manage energy conservation programs to minimize expenses.
Coordinate with equipment suppliers on any outstanding issues.
Ensure maintenance staff adhere to uniform and grooming standards.
Manage quality service, achieve financial goals, and handle short- and long-term planning and day-to-day operations. Utilize technical skills with Google Suite, Helloshift, and other software to enhance departmental efficiency.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
Supervise all maintenance staff.
Job Requirements :
Education : High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Experience : Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role within a hotel engineering department.
Previous guest relations training is preferred.
Skills :
Strong command of the English language.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to provide outstanding customer service while maintaining a professional demeanor.
Proficient in mathematical calculations.
Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize, organize, and work with minimal supervision.
Clear thinker with strong problem-solving skills and good judgment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle negative feedback professionally.
Proficient in using property management systems and relevant software.

Work Environment :
Required to wear protective attire, including work gloves, hard hats, leather aprons, back support, and sturdy boots, to ensure safety while performing duties.
Primarily work indoors, but may occasionally work outdoors on tasks such as repairing foundations and exteriors.
Regularly work in hazardous situations or with hazardous equipment. Exposure to contaminants like oils, solvents, and paints is common.
Frequently exposed to loud machine sounds and noises that can be distracting and uncomfortable.
May encounter very hot or cold temperatures as part of routine tasks.
Occasionally enter confined spaces requiring awkward positioning.
Sometimes work at heights, such as on roofs or ladders.
Work in conditions of both bright and inadequate lighting.
May work in close proximity to others, requiring collaboration and coordination.
