Reports to : Director of Programs & Impact / Executive Director

Hours : Monday-Friday 8 : 30 am-5 : 00 pm pm plus some evenings / weekends as needed

Salary : $75,000-$80,000 / year depending on experience

St. Mary’s Center, www.stmaryscenter.org, is a community of hope, healing, and justice. We provide nutrition, advocacy, counseling, shelter, and social support to seniors and preschoolers in the heart of Oakland.

St. Mary’s Center operates transitional housing, a senior center, and preschool and is developing permanent supportive housing as part of a comprehensive, collaborative community development strategy along the San Pablo Avenue corridor.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a dynamic leader with a deep passion for enhancing the lives of seniors. The Community Services Manager improves the quality of life, nutritional status, and health outcomes for seniors, especially those at risk of or experiencing homelessness, through welcoming, vibrant, and robust programming.

The ideal candidate leads with compassion and empathy with a genuine concern for the well-being of staff, volunteers, and participants and is committed to creating a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment where all individuals feel valued and respected.

This role involves leading a dedicated and dynamic team to deliver exceptional service to our senior community members.

Ongoing Social, Cultural and Nutrition Programs (35%)

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that supports Seniors (housed and unhoused) in aging with dignity and in a compassionate, caring community
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of Food Manager, Food Worker, Wellness Coordinators, and other program staff to manage Community Center or related activities.
  • Develop an annual workplan and align to targeted budget provided by Finance team. Coordinate with Finance team to document expenses appropriately.
  • Ensure language accessibility, cultural competence and humility in working with diverse populations. Translate materials, retain interpreters to use headset equipment, and facilitate accessibility as needed.
  • Train staff on programmatic deliverables, ensure staff are up to date on policies and procedures as they relate to agency goals and operations, best practices and contract requirements.
  • Plan and conduct a program of activities that engages seniors in community-building to reduce social isolation, improve communications, and build relationships.

Community Outreach and Partnerships (30%)

  • Connect St. Mary’s Center programming, resources, and capacity to community needs, designing and developing programs that draw and retain participants, engage partners, and improve outcomes.
  • Coordinate events, activities and classes or workshops in collaboration with partner agencies to bring new services and information to St.

Mary’s Center and strengthen relationships and referral pathways

  • Represent the organization at governmental and partner meetings, train staff on programmatic deliverables, ensure staff are up to date on policies and procedures as they relate to contract requirements, including community meetings.
  • Maintain communication with seniors and members of the public to identify needs and engage supportive services and resources.
  • Monitor trends in gerontology and elder care to incorporate best practices and innovation in St. Mary’s Center programming
  • Nurture effective partnerships with community-based organizations, stakeholders, individuals and donors to attract programming and promote the center’s mission and goals.

Event Development, Marketing and Execution (25%)

  • Create and host a series of events recognizing holidays, cultural events, and music and cultural performances that inform, educate and engage seniors while improving well-being, engaging Seniors and the Council of Elders in planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Develop educational activities that promote health, recovery and wellness of seniors including emergency preparedness, fall prevention, diabetes and pain management, smoking cessation, health fairs, technology training, etc.
  • Plan field trips to accessible, educational and recreational locations.
  • Use local, social and community media to highlight and promote St. Mary’s Center activities in coordination with our communications team.
  • Plan and execute marketing / outreach activities to local senior housing properties to promote services and recruit members.

Data and Documentation (10%)

  • Work with Data Team to develop and administer systems of documentation for program participation, activities, incidents, funding accountability or other essential information
  • Comply with State and Federal requirements on client confidentiality and privacy
  • Coordinate with the Development and Data Team to ensure all contract requirements are met

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-6 years of professional experience in community outreach and engagement, including direct experience working in or with community and / or homelessness organizations.
  • Prioritizes diversity, equity and inclusion and demonstrates multi-cultural competency.
  • TB test required; flu shot recommended.
  • Computer competency, including Microsoft Office Suite, social media and database experience.
  • Experience in human services, homelessness, nutrition; familiarity with issues and care relevant to aging, mental health.
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog) a plus.
