TikTok Trust & Safety

Our Trust & Safety team's commitment is to keep our online community safe. We have invested heavily in human and machine-based moderation to remove harmful content quickly and often before it reaches our general community.

It is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content as part of the core role / as part of project / in response to escalation requests / by chance.

It can also include (but is not limited to) bullying; hate speech; child safety; depictions of harm to self and others, and harm to animals.

As a Product Policy Issue Manager, you will serve as a TikTok content expert on the Integrity & Authenticity team, focusing on Misinformation and Civic Integrity issues.

The focus of this role will be on developing policies to combat various forms of misinformation and other related topics.

In this position, you will be a key influencer in our global Trust & Safety organization, supporting our efforts to ensure that our Integrity & Authenticity policies protect the safety of our users.

You will do this by establishing relevant policies that govern the TikTok platform, as well as providing colleagues with an understanding of the definitions and impacts of medical and scientific misinformation.

Responsibilities :

  • Help execute the strategic vision for the Integrity & Authenticity team.
  • Develop Integrity & Authenticity policies, specifically misinformation and civic integrity (e.g. election) content policies for our global community on the TikTok platform.
  • Work with other high-performing Issue managers to optimize policy iteration, enforcement & implementation procedures and deliver high-quality results.
  • Partner with the Product team to develop user-facing features and initiatives suitable to address a spectrum of misinformation harms.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert representative for general misinformation efforts, in coordination with Public Policy, Communications, and / or Outreach & Partnerships teams.
  • Remain up-to-date on industry trends, platform developments and emerging issues regarding global misinformation patterns and design policies to combat them.
  • Convene experts from misinformation and integrity-related fields to serve as advisors on our policy initiatives.
  • Support various global escalations by acting as a point of contact, aligning all stakeholders, and / or responding to urgent content safety-related cases.
  • Collaborate with Global Public Policy, Product, Operations, Legal, and Public Relations teams to improve current misinformation policies and streamline enforcement policies and processes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

  • 4+ years of experience and / or advanced degree in online / media safety, politics, or a related field;
  • 3+ years experience in a policy-related field, public policy, law, etc;
  • Deep understanding of technology, Internet, social media and / or platform content issues;
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically, and to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration and motivating colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience specifically related to misinformation;
  • Experience working in a tech company;
  • Exposure to designing policies or processes for scale in a fast-paced media organization;
  • Fluency in a language other than English.
