Overview Purpose Statement / Position Summary : Under direct supervision of unlicensed or licensed CLS, MLT, or section manager, functions as an unlicensed or licensed staff member in a licensed clinical laboratory performing duties approved by California business code 1269, CLIA, and other regulatory agencies.

Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to, patient preparation, specimen preparation, client service activities, preparation and management of reagents and supplies, and performing procedures and QC functions approved by regulatory agencies.

Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the age and developmental issue of the patient population(s) being served.

May be asked to take direction from a Lead or Specialist level position. Responsibilities : Receiving and accessioning clinical specimens for Virology lab testing.

Utilizing sterile techniques to perform specimen processing on various clinical samples. Assisting with preventive maintenance, routine decontamination, and monitoring of basic lab equipment (e.

g., centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, gram stainers). Monitoring lab supplies and reagent inventory. Answering phone calls and other non-technical inquiries from clinicians, escalating to Clinical Lab Scientists or Section Supervisor / Manager as necessary.

Assisting Clinical Lab Scientists with day-to-day pre-analytical and other routine tasks (e.g., plating for cultures, aliquoting shared specimens, reviewing test lists for pending orders).

Minimum Qualifications / Work Experience : 3+ years’ experience in a large laboratory or academic institution. 3+ years’ experience in technical phlebotomy if blood collection required for lab section.

Processing experience preferred. Excellent pipetting skills. Proficiency in Excel, as the lab is heavily Excel-based. Ability to learn quickly.

Team player with excellent communication skills. Attention to detail, essential for working in a sensitive PCR-based lab.

Experience in medical terminology sufficient to understand and discuss technical aspects of pathology and laboratory medicine.

Education / Licensure / Certification : High school graduate. AA / BS degree preferred. Pay Scale Information USD $44,304.

00 - USD $76,544.00 CHLA values the contribution each Team Member brings to our organization. Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry.

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description.
