The Facilities Manager assists in maintaining all College facilities, equipment and grounds in order to help ensure an effective learning environment.

Supervises various projects of the department. This position requires a dynamic individual who can effectively communicate with staff while managing a variety of tasks.

Ability to assess and solve problems quickly and effectively. This role is crucial in ensuring that our facilities are safe, efficient, and well-maintained, supporting the overall productivity of our organization.

Founded in 1914, Cornish has multiple departments, and the library supports all of them with reference, resources, and instruction.

Students take classes in Art, Dance, Design, Film, Music, Performance Production, and Theater. It is known for its faculty of practicing artists who bring the arts to their students through hands-on work.

The mission of Cornish is to provide students aspiring to become practicing artists with an educational program of the highest possible quality, in an environment that nurtures creativity and intellectual curiosity, while preparing them to contribute to society as artists, citizens, and innovators.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to work orders and performs repairs in various construction trades including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, etc.
  • Performs all necessary interior and exterior inspections to ascertain on-going property condition.
  • Plans and supervises various projects of the Department which includes;
  • working with Operations Director to outline scope of work and providing updates to project progress and completion
  • organizing appropriate staffing of crew members
  • ordering all necessary supplies and monitoring their use
  • assuring crew is prepared
  • finishing projects within determined timelines
  • keeping accurate records of purchase and submitting them in a timely manner
  • communicating with College community about project activities
  • Reviews and dispatches work orders in the absence of Operations Coordinator.
  • Oversees the building and equipment depreciation logs
  • Coordinates with Cornish building and equipment maintenance vendors and contractors
  • Teaches and leads current and new maintenance employees by :
  • helping new employees familiarize themselves with all College properties
  • pairing crew members for training purposes
  • providing hands-on teaching of trades skills when and where appropriate
  • Supervises Facilities spaces :
  • assuring appropriate organization and cleanliness of spaces either directly or through delegation
  • keeping track of larger tools and their condition
  • keeping track of basic materials stock levels and purchasing more as necessary
  • Assists Operations Director with the hiring and evaluation of new and current maintenance personnel to include :
  • previewing applications
  • participating in interview process
  • offering constructive criticism in regards to yearly evaluations of crew members
  • Works with Registration and Records and Academic departments on classroom set up prior to each term.
  • oversees classroom and office set up in conjunction with the Operations Coordinator
  • Oversees Coordination of meetings set up as it relates to furnishings and space
  • Works with Operations Director to track capital needs
  • Rotates on-call night and weekend shifts with Facilities team
  • Participates in emergency drills and in emergency situations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma plus five to seven years hands-on and supervisory experience or combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Valid WA state driver’s license and safe driving record including but not limited to, no at-fault accidents, moving violations, driving-related criminal convictions, points on license
  • Demonstrated applicable experience and advanced knowledge in at least two construction trades and verifiable above intermediate knowledge of others such as electrical, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and groundskeeping
  • Verifiable mechanical aptitude
  • Exemplified knowledge in the safe use of power and hand tools with the proven capability to operate them
  • Demonstrated skill in general maintenance operations
  • Proven intermediate+ experience with PC computers, online maintenance programs, and cloud-based drive use
  • Verified ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently using good judgment in all situations including emergencies
  • Demonstrable attention to detail and enthusiasm about the quality of work
  • Evidenced self-motivation, responsibility, dependability, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, as scheduled work may get interrupted
  • Verifiable ability to work on call during emergencies and a varied schedule as hours may fluctuate based on the needs of the College
  • Proven ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation, and to work in high places (ladders, roofs, etc.

and small spaces, as required

  • Demonstrable ability to move throughout shift, inside and outdoors, in a variety of weather conditions
  • Established and effective verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse campus community
  • Must pass background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience & intermediate+ knowledge with HVAC systems and equipment
  • College degree in related field or equivalent training & experience
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit, higher education or arts environment
  • Certified in CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens (training provided)

Compensation : $30 - $34, Non-exempt; Full-time
