Overview
The Nexus Water Group has an opportunity for a VP, Regulatory Affairs. Manages, plans, directs, organizes, and coordinates the activities of all Suburban regulatory functions to ensure the completeness, adequacy, accuracy and timeliness of all projects.
Directs the preparation of rate filings including exhibits relating to costs and rates to be presented, and provides testimony in support of such exhibits.
Responsible for the direction and coordination of all other matters which need to be placed before the commission in consultation with other departments.
Establishes and maintains methods, procedures, and internal controls for the department. Performs analyses and evaluation of complex statistical accounting and regulatory data.
Work Location and Schedule
This position can be primarily based in Baton Rouge, LA, Mandeville, LA, Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA, or Savannah, GA with some travel.
What You'll Do
- Responsible for the formulation of company policies dealing with regulatory matters, in compliance with applicable laws and company goals.
- Responsible for determining the Company’s revenue requirements and implementing procedures necessary to obtain timely authorization from the CPUC for required revision of rates.
- Manages the preparation of exhibits relating to costs and rates to be presented and provide testimony in support of such exhibits.
Plans and conducts special investigations and studies as may be required to establish, substantiate or clarify Company positions on regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for the direction and coordination of all other matters which need to be placed before the commission, in consultation with other departments.
- Supervises, trains, instructs, reviews and approves the activities of all subordinate revenue requirement department personnel.
- Develops complete plans and procedures that effectively and efficiently meet all requirements of the department. Analyzes workload requirements and instructs department personnel in the methods and techniques to be followed in accomplishing requirements for their effective implementation and ensures that they are properly installed and administered throughout the department’s activities.
- Establishes and maintains contact and ongoing communication with responsible personnel throughout the Company and outside representatives in order to obtain or present information and data pertaining to assigned regulatory activity.
- Makes recommendations regarding employment, salary increases, promotions, reclassifications, discipline and terminations.
- Consult with and advise other departments as to the requirements, existing or proposed, which affect their areas of operation.
- Contacts individuals of all levels within the Company, other utilities, the commission and other outside agencies to obtain or present information and data, resolves problems encountered, explains new procedures and techniques.
- Maintains effective liaison with responsible personnel in all Company departments and outside regulatory agencies and associations as required to initiate, further or complete assignments.
- Be involved in and direct external activities that provide the Company with positive exposure to meet organizational needs and assist in implementation of company goals.
- Be an active team member by performing all duties in a spirit of cooperation with other staff and departments. Inherent to this philosophy is the obligation to carry on the corporate culture and to participate in training and succession planning activities as determined by the Administrative Staff.
What you'll bring
Experience
Required to have a minimum of twelve years of direct involvement in dealing with a regulatory commission reflecting increasing levels of responsibility and accomplishments and experience which provides a thorough knowledge of regulatory filings, management and accounting principles, regulatory theory and practice.
Five to seven years’ experience directly supervising a Regulatory Affairs staff. Thorough working knowledge of all applicable regulatory and governmental regulations affecting the Company.
Education, Certification, and Licenses
- Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting or Business Administration required.
- CPA certification required.
- Valid Driver's License
Nice to Have
MBA or MS in Business Administration preferred.

Work Environment
- May be required to sit for long periods of time, must be able to walk long distances, may work long and irregular hours under demanding conditions, must be able to operate a Company passenger vehicle or pickup truck, must have adequate vision and hearing that is required to communicate with personnel in person or by telephone and may require moderate lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
- Employee works in a climate-controlled office environment shared by other employees.
