A nonprofit organization in New York City is looking to add a new Housing Specialist to their growing team in Brooklyn. In this role, the Housing Specialist will be responsible for addressing the housing needs of clients residing in the organization's domestic violence shelters.

About the Opportunity :
Start Date : ASAP
Schedule : Tues to Fri (10am to 6pm) + Sat (12pm to 8pm)
Setting : Domestic Violence Shelter
Responsibilities :
Assist clients as they transition from shelter to permanent housing
Identify permanent housing options
Develop and maintain a database of housing resources
Conduct individual sessions and support groups around housing issues
Provide referrals, advocacy, follow-up, and assistance with housing application
Develop partnerships with government and community agencies to help increase clients' access to meaningful housing
Perform other duties, as needed
Qualifications :
2-3 years of related work experience
BA Degree / will consider Associates or GED with 4+ years experience in field
Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and / or knowledge of Domestic Violence within and against Disenfranchised communities, including individuals whom identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and / or HIV-affected, the elderly and individuals with mental health issues
Working knowledge of women's issues, sensitivity to women's needs, etc.
Computer savvy
Microsoft Office proficient
Great interpersonal skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong attention to detail
Highly organized
Desired Skills :
2+ years of experience in Housing Development / Management, Real Estate and / or Case Management
1+ year of Counseling experience
Bachelor's Degree in Human Services and / or a related field strongl
