Description
- Communicate job requirements and responsibilities to all operators and dispatchers
- Assist all operators in preparing accident reports and safety violations documents
- Correct safety problems on the route / scene while documenting violations
- Liaison between all operators, clients, and organization in customer service issues
- Assist safety personnel with Department of Transportation (DOT) and / or Federal Transit Administration (FTA) compliance and recordkeeping.
- Assist in dispatching, scheduling, and miscellaneous clerical tasks as needed
- Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required to operate vehicles at location, maintain that license, and drive routes periodically
- Respond and investigate complaints
- Maintain timely and accurate records on service interruptions, bus changes, and other reports as assigned
- Investigate, prepare, and record reports on accidents or incidents, including handling the collection and photographing of evidence, measurements, interviewing of witnesses, and providing for alternate passenger service.
- Provide on the Road Supervision
- Review complaints with all operators; conduct interviews, pull videos, and investigate in order to respond to DDOT.
- Receives incoming calls related to the dispatch and control of vehicles and providing accurate and timely transmittal of information regarding schedules and services, including possible emergencies, accidents, and incidents
- Uses computerized routing and scheduling software program to monitor vehicles and trips. After an initial training period, employees are assigned a shift to receive calls and dispatch vehicles in accordance with established procedures
- Must use considerable independent judgment and initiative, including responses in emergency situations
- Assist operators with road calls / supervision
- At certain times, this position may be required to perform the duties of a Transit Vehicle Operator (Fixed or Paratransit)
- Perform daily dispatching and related activities; coordinate trip assignments; monitor radio communications; monitor operator adherence for show and reporting times.
- Assign vehicles to begin service each day. Review exception sheet and schedule work assignments of all operators and extra board operators.
- Perform as senior management representative after normal business hours and manage a multitude of issues and occurrences : Prepare control center for next day's operations and coordinate with maintenance for vehicle repair.
- Monitor the activities and subcontractor services provided at the transit centers. Ensure that the buildings, grounds, equipment, supplies and security systems are maintained properly, and report findings to the Operations Manager or Facilities Manager.

Requirements
- Supervisory experience with hourly employees with 3 years of transit supervisory experience preferred
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AVL Software. Trapeze experience preferred.
- Familiar with basic vehicle mechanical systems including pre / post trip inspection procedures
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills with ability to appropriately interact with employees of all levels including bus operators, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials, and the general public
- Write reports in a coherent, legible way
- Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines
- Problem solving and analytical abilities
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions with minimal supervision
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
- Ability to work flexible and varied work schedules including late night, early morning, weekends, inclement weather days, and holidays.
Experience in clerical or communication work
- High school Diploma or an equivalent combination of experience and training
- Valid license as required for the operation of vehicles used in service and two (2) years of driving experience is preferred
- Working knowledge of the operation of communication equipment and mobile technology.
- General knowledge of computer systems and ability to learn routing and scheduling software programs
- Transit experience, required. Public Transit Experience, preferred
- Prior dispatch / supervision experience, preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :
- Use of full ranges of hearing, speech, and vision
- Stoop, crouch, squat or kneel when performing inspections of any type
- Stand while performing inspections and behind-the-wheel training
- Be subject to wet, cold or hot environmental conditions
- Must be able to move about the office and between floors
- Must be able to sit and / or stand for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift 30 -50 lbs
Summary
The Operations Supervisor serves as the first line supervisor for all operators, customers, driver field evaluation, and accident first responders.
This position is a safety sensitive position that will establish professional and respectful communication with other Dispatchers, Operators, and other Supervisors.
This position will perform the duties of a Dispatcher, Road Supervisor & scheduling / administrative duties.
