The Department of Nursing for the School of Health Profession is seeking a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Maternal Child Health located at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus.

Responsibilities include teaching Maternal Health in our undergraduate program and the possibility of teaching in a graduate Family Nurse Practitioner program.

Responsibilities

Partake in the day-to-day operations of the Department of Nursing.

  • Have knowledge of CCNE standards and essentials.
  • Be willing to work on accreditation site visit.
  • Participate, and demonstrate leadership, in the implementation, and evaluation of a competency-based curriculum and other nursing education program components.
  • Assist students toward successful program completion.
  • Participate in activities that promote the stature of the department.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships within the community, including fostering the nursing education program's responsiveness to community / employer needs.
  • Ensures overall integrity / quality in the delivery of the nursing program.
  • Ensure the curricular assessment data is used to recommend quality enhancements to teaching styles and curricular content specific to nursing.
  • Identify factors in the nursing curriculum that warrant further evaluation and / or assessment using benchmark data.
  • Enforce and monitor procedures and programs that demonstrate a commitment to an inclusive environment within the Department of Nursing.
  • Ensures appropriate nursing accreditation and approval standards are met and communicates within the department.
  • Monitors national, regional, and local trends in nursing education to assure competitiveness in programs offered in the department.
  • Seeks guidance and oversight for nursing faculty development.
  • Recognizes the critical role of scholarship in both nursing knowledge dissemination and generation in shaping academic programs.
  • Teach in assigned academic courses, to include clinical courses.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chair.
  • Maintain an active practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Willing to teach clinical rotations as well as didactic courses.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral prepared (Ph.D., DNP, Ed.D.) Nurse practitioner preferred : Family Nurse Practitioner, Mental Health Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Maternal-Child / Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner, or be in an accredited program working on the degree.
  • Active research agenda. Previous publications / presentations of research a plus.
  • Experience teaching online, preferably in an online environment is required.
  • In person classroom teaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience in curriculum design a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Confidence in adapting to new technological pedagogy.
  • Rapport with clinical facilities in the Tri-State Area and Long Island.

Essential skills :

  • Must possess knowledge of accreditation standards and processes for nursing educational programs.
  • Must have excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to work in an Interdisciplinary / Interprofessional dynamic environment.
  • Must have excellent computer and data management skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of faculty academic progression policies for those in tenure track and clinical track lines.
  • Must possess the ability to manage faculty and staff human resources effectively.
  • Must possess the ability to manage financial resources efficiently.
  • Must be available on campus three days per week. (Includes day teaching clinical)
  • Completion of a doctoral degree is required to obtain tenure.
