Fire Protection Engineer/Project Manager - Continental Fire

Position Overview

Our business is growing, and we are adding a Project Manager in our Hanover Maryland office, to support Fire Suppression Systems Design and Construction, working from the proposal / concept stage through installation.

In this division, we primarily execute projects in Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia and Delaware and support clients in many diverse industries including Energy, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Historic buildings, Industrial, Hospitality, Schools / Universities, energy, Ethanol / Bio-Diesel, High-Rises, Solar, High-Rise and high security / Government facilities.

If you are an experienced Project Manager with at least 4 years PM experience with general commercial construction in the MEP or Fire Suppression trades or an experienced Fire Protection Engineer, interested in growing into a PM - we would love to talk with you! You will be expected to know how to read construction drawings, understand commercial construction operations and scheduling, and be a resource to the field installation personnel.

The project manager will support the design constructability reviews, communicate with field operations teams, clients, and the general contractor, as well as support and troubleshoot installation issues and conflicts in the field, as well as manage scope / schedule and financials on the project.

Location

This position will be based out of our Hanover, MD office with travel within the Maryland / DC and Virginia region.

Responsibilities

  • Be proficient in reading commercial construction drawings and schedules
  • Review contracts, contract documents, specifications, and safety requirements and lead the contract administration and communication with the general contractor and other external stakeholders
  • Be proficient in shop drawing review for quality and constructability concerns and work directly with the fire protection designers to support them
  • Communicate and solve conflicts between MEP subcontractor trades in the field
  • Provide Field engineering troubleshooting and support for the installation operations on the jobsite, attend jobsite meetings and track productivity in the field
  • Compile and communicate change orders, oversee project scheduling, onsite operations planning, quantity tracking, material fabrication and procurement
  • Review as-built drawings for in-house archive and client files
  • General understanding of job costs related to engineering, material and fabrication, and labor and able to perform job cost projects and manage financials for the project
  • Perform method analysis reviews to ensure the design and installation is the most efficient and safe and provide that feedback to the job team
  • Ability to travel to construction jobsites and other office locations as the business requires (25%-50%), exposed to wide-ranging climates and environments
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and objective peer review to others on the team

Qualifications

A graduate in an Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related degree preferred (Associates degree also considered), and 4+ years fire sprinkler design experience OR in MEP Design, with direct construction related experience;

Will consider no degree but must have 5+ years in the Fire Sprinkler or MEP trade plus 4 years PM experience).

  • Experienced with MS Excel and Word, and have general computer skills required
  • High level of self-discipline, motivation, and ability to operate in a team environment, as well as work independently, with a passion for excellence and taking initiative
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
