Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Workforce Education, the role of the Embedded Career Specialist (ECS) is dynamic, and this person will serve as the main point of contact for specific sectors regarding career discernment, internship placement, career readiness, and job placement.
The ECS will meet employment outcomes by building relationships with professional-technical faculty, college administrators, community partners, employers, and a diverse student body.
North Seattle College's Embedded Career Services are uniquely embedded into the curriculum of the various professional-technical programs.
The ECS will be expected to get out of the office and provide services such as appointments, workshops, industry tours, hiring events, etc.
in various pre-determined campus locations within class time, with prior instructor collaboration and approval.
What you will be working on :
Supports students through 1 : 1, small, and large group interactions in co-creating career plans and pathways to meet employment goals using a strengths-based perspective and social justice lens to ask questions and demonstrate active listening to meet students where they are at.
Formats take into different learning styles and may include appointments, workshops, industry tours, on-campus employer presentations, employer panels, mock interview events, and hiring events.
Provides leadership in the development and implementation of a viable internship program. Provide information and advice regarding internship and prior work experience to professional-technical and academic students that adheres to registration deadlines and funding policies and considers students goals and existing work / life commitments in advising sessions.
Works collaboratively with faculty and administration to create policy and procedures for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of internships.
Coordinates and administers all aspects of the internship program.
- Create and facilitate sector career readiness workshops for the general community and sector specific career readiness workshops for students that raise students awareness of their strengths and implements employer s feedback to meet industry trends and demands.
- Demonstrate experience working effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds, such as racial, ethnic, religious, gender and sexual orientation, socio-economic and diverse physical and learning disabilities.
- Build relationships with faculty and employers to create and manage industry specific pipelines, obtain student referrals to meet employers recruiting needs, and collect employment data.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with employers specifically Worksource and DSHS and engage in conversations to determine hiring needs, create placement opportunities, discuss equitable labor practices, and support diverse workplace initiatives such as recruitment of women in non-traditional industries.
- Lead and engage in committees, meetings, and outreach events with campus and community professionals to promote the WorkSource Center and career readiness at North Seattle College.

What you bring as a candidate (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience) :
- Bachelor s degree in Education, Social Work, Communication, Public Relations or related field; or 4 years professional experience in a transferable field, and equivalent combination of four years knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience.
- Desire to work directly with students within a higher education setting, preferably in career services, academic advising, or workforce development.
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence in serving and working with diverse individuals.
- Pro-active communicator who can adapt speaking, listening, and writing communication style to accommodate different audiences.
- Able to learn, retain, and recall large amounts of information across a variety of topics to think critically and resolve problems thoughtfully and efficiently.
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and can quickly pivot from one task to another while remaining focused and / or re-prioritize commitments to accommodate changing deadlines with input from the Director of Workforce Education.
- Able to work independently and demonstrates excellent follow through and attention to detail in small and large tasks and events.
- Appreciates working collaboratively with different constituents to share ideas, information, and feedback with an ability to value opposing viewpoints, as well as constructive criticism.
- Dedication to improving services through persistent tracking of employment placement data and proving value of services provided.
- Able to learn and use technology to perform daily tasks.
- Passion for providing educational and employment access to underserved populations and committed to furthering social justice and equity.
- Ability to transition between classrooms, offsite locations, and office / virtual environments multiple times daily.
Physical Requirements :
The Position
Typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties.
The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office.
- Encounters frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
- Regularly required to provide 1 : 1 support, present to small groups, and work at a computer exercising repetitive hand motion with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping;
and traversing up and down stairs.
