The Assistant Designer begins their career on the Design Team at Macy’s, actively engaging in the process of learning the company culture, area, brand aesthetics, and principles.

What You Will Do
- Develop an understanding and skills in researching category, trend, and customer preferences.
- Assist the Design Team in aligning with the Private Brand direction by incorporating materials, trims, silhouettes, colors, and patterns.
- Expand design knowledge by supporting the team in executing a strategic vision with a progressive, customer-centric approach, contributing to overall product strategy and merchandise objectives.
- Assist in preparing presentation materials and set-up for design-led meetings.
- Contribute to in-season design changes for the department and vendors.
- Strengthen skills for active participation in cross-functional team meetings, summarizing action points for the manager.
- Collaborate closely with the people leader to meet deadlines and understand priority and workload expectations.
- Assist and develop skills in creating flat mechanical sketches for design development packages.
- Participate in creating and distributing tech packages.
- Assist in approving strike-offs, samples, and other development materials.
- Acquire skills in using Adobe and CLO programs for style, color, and pattern development.
- Review and provide feedback on development samples.
- Establish relationships and maintain regular communication with cross-functional partners throughout the development cycle.
- Learn on the job how to identify opportunities and develop an assortment.
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate and achieve results with a desire to grow within the company and pursue a career at Macy’s.
Skills You Will Need
Research Skills : Ability to develop an understanding and skills in researching category, trend, and customer preferences.
Presentation Skills : Competency in preparing presentation materials and setting up for design-led meetings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration : Strong skills for actively participating in cross-functional team meetings, summarizing action points for the manager, and collaborating closely with team leaders to meet deadlines.
Technical Skills : Ability to create flat mechanical sketches for design development packages, work with Adobe and CLO programs for style, color, and pattern development, and participate in creating and distributing tech packages.
Relationship Building : Establish relationships and maintain regular communication with cross-functional partners throughout the development cycle.
Adaptability and Learning : Willingness to learn on the job, identify opportunities, and develop an assortment.
Communication Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, crucial for effective collaboration and achieving results.
Technical Proficiency : Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Design programs.
PLM Knowledge : Working knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) is a plus.
Color and Print Sense : Strong color sense and print sense, with the ability to view and differentiate the color spectrum.
