Job Summary

Job Summary :

Manager of Inpatient Applications and Business Intelligence manages a team designing, implementing, maintaining, and analyzing data from clinical and business information systems.

Supervises the implementation of electronic health record (EHR) systems or any other relevant health information systems.

Provides technical leadership and guidance to a team of Clinical Informatics Specialists and Analysts that support the inpatient workflows for current applications.

Utilizes data produced by these systems to assist stakeholders in identifying trends and areas for improvement. Ensures systems are functioning properly and evaluates and recommends improvements to systems.

Essential job functions and responsibilities :

  • Provides overall direction and plan for optimization and support of inpatient clinical and business applications and reporting.
  • Provide direct management and leadership of a highly-skilled team of clinical and business applications and informatics professionals.
  • Directs the design, development, and maintenance of inpatient clinical and business applications and related technology in support of clinical and business operations.
  • Achieve operational alignment utilizing agreed-upon work flows and consistency in staff roles to reduce variation and optimize successful outcomes in use of the EHRs.
  • Optimize communications and awareness of EHR project status and articulate specific leadership responsibilities to optimize EHRs.
  • Participates in nursing, medical, and organizational policy formation and decision-making as it relates to information technology.
  • Synthesizes data, information, and knowledge to clarify clinical informatics issues or problems.
  • Works in collaboration with the IS team and clinicians to determine multiple approaches / solutions for informatics issues or problems relating to patient care.
  • Maintains knowledge and competency in relevant clinical and business applications and obtaining certification as necessary.
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, costs, and impact in conducting clinical informatics practice.
  • Effectively communicates with the organization through established forums and committees the EHR changes, upgrades, training schedules, and other communication as needed to optimize end user comfort and competency with the EHRs.
  • Defines and develops the competency requirements for end users and learning programs for ongoing professional development as related to information systems.
  • Establish and continually evolve the analytical standards of the organization, considering platforms, standards, and toolsets required to not only meet current analytic practices but also seek out evolving analytic solutions.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to develop and maintain a deep understanding of core business platforms and processes and to identify and capture data and analytical requirements with the goal of setting strategy for improvement and driving change with data.
  • Provide recommendations to senior leaders on the reporting requirements necessary to meet clinical, operational, and strategic business objectives.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements :

Education Requirements :

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred : MBA, MHA, MSN (Masters / Nursing Informatics).

Job Related Experience :

A solid clinical background with progressive management experience in healthcare required. A minimum of five years’ experience in an application support role required.

Current knowledge and experience in computer software program implementations. Inpatient hospital leadership in application support experience strongly preferred.

  • High level of experience with building dictionaries and functionality in clinical information systems
  • Knowledge and expertise in the components of change control.
  • Knowledge of system integration and impact on end users and build of systems, from a clinical and business standpoint.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to analyze and problem-solve system and end user issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of health care operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to utilize the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application and to ensure that information systems functionality is consistent with professional standards of practice.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Experience working effectively with clinicians and physicians.
  • Well-organized, with proven ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to positively motivate department personnel to desired actions in meeting project goals and time frames.
  • Demonstrate ability to mentor, coach and facilitate change and innovation; demonstrated successful facilitator / liaison experience within a team setting.
  • Knowledge of documentation standards as required by State, Federal and Joint Commission regulations.

State / Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements :

RN License preferred. Informatics Certification preferred.

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements :

Orientation at hire. Annual Competencies. Other unit based competencies / skills as required.

Physical Requirements :

Moderate walking, bending, stooping; physical and digital dexterity; occasional lifting of office supplies and materials.

Extended sitting possible.

Work Environment :

Normal office environment.
