What does success look like? (What You’ll do - Mission of the role)
The role's mission is to monitor, inspect, and test processes and outputs to ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards.
The QA Specialist will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify, document, and address any quality issues, and recommend improvements to enhance overall product or service quality.
What Your Day Will Consist of :
Quality Monitoring
Perform regular inspections, audits (including SQF, Costco, GFSI, and GMP), and tests to ensure products, services, and processes comply with internal and external quality and food safety standards.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate documentation of quality assurance activities, including test results, inspection reports, and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with FSMA, HACCP, and FSVP regulations, with a focus on foreign supplier verification.
Audit Readiness & Execution
Prepare for and participate in third-party audits such as SQF, Costco, ISO, GFSI, and GMP. Address any audit findings and ensure ongoing compliance.
Supplier Verification (FSVP)
Implement and oversee the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) to ensure suppliers outside the U.S. meet the required safety and quality standards.
Collect and verify supplier documentation and ingredient control processes.
ServeSafe & Food Safety
Maintain compliance with ServeSafe standards and ensure team members are trained in food safety best practices. Implement procedures to ensure compliance with FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act).
Process Improvement
Continuously improve quality and food safety processes, with a focus on preventative controls (PCQI), HACCP principles, and GMP practices.
Ensure effective SOPs and workflows are in place.
Preventative Controls (PCQI)
Serve as the designated PCQI, responsible for implementing and maintaining food safety plans, conducting hazard analysis, managing preventative controls, and verifying supplier practices in compliance with FSMA and FDA regulations.
Training & Education
Provide training and support to employees on food safety programs (FSMA, SQF, GMP, ServeSafe) and quality assurance processes.
Lead sessions on supplier verification, document control, and standard compliance.
SOP Development
Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and workflows to ensure consistency in operations and quality control.
Corrective Action : Investigate and document quality defects, non-compliances, and discrepancies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive measures.
Data Analysis
Collect, analyze, and interpret data on product quality, audits, and supplier performance. Provide insights and recommendations to improve quality and efficiency.
What you Need to Bring to the Role :
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, quality management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in quality assurance, particularly in food and beverage manufacturing or restaurant operations.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and quality programs, including FSMA, SQF, GMP, HACCP, and ServeSafe.
- Experience writing SOPs, workflows, and managing food safety plans.
- Familiarity with regulatory and industry standards (FDA, GFSI, Costco, etc.).
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in quality management systems and document control.
Preferred Qualifications :
- ServeSafe certification or other food safety-related certifications.
- Experience with SQF audits and leading GFSI audits.
- ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or Six Sigma certification.
